| Didn't notice at the time how good the Castleford players and coaching staff were calming the Cas fans, telling them to remain in the stands and putting themselves between the hooligans and Cas supporters - far more effective than the stewards were though I doubt many on the pitch would fancy getting past the likes of Justin Carney!

| I just hope these a$$clowns are happy. Widnes have said they've had to put a hold on recruitment for next year until the total financial cost of this display of stupidity is known.
If Widnes get relegated next year, don't blame the coach, don't blame the players, don't blame the RFL. Blame these morons

| Lots of criticism of the stewards and the small group of Police Officers on here with some blaming them for the situation and saying that they should have got stuck in. With the stewards, they are in a situation where they are trying to keep order, yet are being watched themselves. look at the situation at the Warrington v Widnes game last year. There was more on social media about the actions of one steward than there was about the Widnes fans. If they do get stuck in and detain someone, that person lashes out, the steward defends himself and the next thing we know is thatsomeone has posted the second half of the incident on social media.
regarding the Police, there was only a relatively small group there and if one officers arrests someone there and then, he/she is out of the game. If 8 officers make 8 arrests, then the result is no officers left. their best tactic is to minimise the trouble by getting the Widnes idiots back to their own end and then use CCTV, twitter, Facebook and the press to make arrests later. There will be times when the worst offenders need arresting there and then, but only the most obvious and serious ones.
The blame for the incident should be put fairly and squarely on the particular group and they should be absolutely hammered.
Those who were there and taking part in the incident won't be sleeping too well over the next few night, an unwelcome early morning call could well be in the offing.

Well I wasn't being completely serious but one element of child emotional abuse is;
"Exposing the child to violence or the abuse of others, whether it be the abuse of a parent, a sibling, or even a pet."
I'm sure Cas supporters are covered by that.

When you watch some of the vids on this you can see that tactic clearly.
There was no point picking people out unless they really caused danger to someone. (I know some did though)
If they've pulled someone out the rest would have dived in and caused a brawl the stewards weren't equiped for.
Better to get them away from the Cas end and then just sift through the photos. The police will have their own as well as the fans vids.
The one guy I would pull out fo assault is the ginger guy in the red shirt and black jacket.
He attacked the first mascot and I think he was the one who sucker punched the Tiger too.
He should be charged with assault as well as all the other charges.
Some of the other fans were just drunk and being silly rather than attacking people but being on the field they made it worse.

Wouldn't disagree with any of this but the fact remains that on this occasion the security was inadequate, in so far as it was unable to remove those scrotes quickly enough. Had the Cas fans shown less restraint there could well have been a very serious incident.

| I hope someone is also going to name the cas fan at 24secs in the last video, who goes onto the pitch and starts punching the loser in the blue top.

| What annoyed me and a lot of other Cas fans stood nearby was the one idiot (with his face painted) who was allowed to walk from the Widnes end, near to the Castleford supporters goading them, back towards the Widnes end, then back towards the Castleford fans. I haven't watched the videos back yet but he was allowed to wander around the pitch for what seemed like a few minutes with no one stepping anywhere near him.
Later on I don't expect 10 stewards/police to deal with 100 Widnes fans but there was every opportunity for that one fan to be led off the pitch in a restrained but forceful manner by a couple of stewards or policemen...I think that would have calmed the situation somewhat.
I know full well most stewards are fans and aren't on big money, but that one 'fan' could have been dealt with.
A few Widnes fans then came towards the Castleford end with a flag, to be honest they looked to be applauding us for getting to Wembley and didn't appear aggressive or to be goading but again it's hard to judge in the heat of the moment and then suddenly a lot more came on.
Disappointing to see the flare thrown by someone in the Widnes end towards their own fans, those things can be pretty dangerous....in the Cas stand it seemed the policy was to give a body search to everyone coming through the turnstile, don't know if this was the case for the other stands.
Overall it was a good day spoilt, albeit by a mindless minority.

No stewarding is going to stop hundred of opposing fans having a riot with one another. At that point specialist police would have been called in.

It's simple...
You ban the pitch invaders... You could even punish the club by removing Widnes from next years Challenge Cup... You could argue that the steward/security wasn't effective enough at the venue....
Or.....
You just get a load of stewards like this -
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4TMQbhqsVPw
Smash them and they won't invade the pitch again.
I thank you.
Ps... these guys probably live on a council estate near you!

| Quote ="knockersbumpMKII"The Football Offences Act 1991 actually only applies to Association Football and does not cover Rugby League. Wrong..... The Football Offences Act covers ALL forms of football. The 1991 Act, brought in originally covered Association Football but its coverage has been expanded to all forms (partially because it should but also partially because of dual use of pitches). Check the rules of any of the SuperLeague (and probably championship teams) and they will confirm that encroaching into the playing area is a criminal offence under the Act.

Feel sorry for normal decent law abiding supporters of both clubs.

Don't bury your head in the sand. Lots had Widnes shirts and clothing on that they would hardly spend money buying to attend one game, particularly the ones in replica shirts that cost £40+.
They need to face up the problem and sort it out as a club, don't just pull the "they are not Widnes fans" excuse out of the bag when they clearly are.

| There's no point in bleating about 'not real fans' when half of them had shirts on/flags/face paint, etc. The best thing Widnes can do is acknowledge this part of their fan base and stomp it out like Cas and Hull did. Hand out some lifetime bans & reinvent the fans. If they just write it off as a few football hooligans who had a rugby day out, it won't look like they are taking it seriously. From what I've heard, this isn't the first time Widnes have had some crowd trouble.

Why term them as football fans. There are plenty wearing Widnes colours, of the ones that are not bare chested. I dont understand why so many rugby league fans use the term 'football fans' when there is a major crowd disturbance. Football clubs may have a small percentage of hooligans and so do some of our clubs, not just Widnes.
It is so re-assuring when you see links to facebook and idiots proud of their behaviour and plenty of their 'friends' liking the status. The guy who was intimidating a steward for millions of TV viewers to see behind the post match interviews was wearing a shirt and doesnt appear to have regretted his actions judging by what he has put on facebook. You could hardly accuse him of having a few too many and getting carried away. He probably thinks hes a local celebrity and adding it to his personal achievements on his cv. Its also uplifting to see people with profile pictures which shows they must have young children liking his cover photo - im sure their children too will grow up to be model citizens.

I've not seen any trouble at football matches I have been to in recent years (granted they have been Premiership ones, not lower league ones). I'd say these people are more likely to the RUGBY LEAGUE 'fans' (oh I hate that term - it means yobs) than football ones.

This is the typical stupid, standard response from RL fans whenever there is trouble at a game. How many fans did Widnes take yesterday? I doubt there was many, if any 'tanked up football fans' just going for the day out.

Sadly this is the stock answer whenever there is trouble at a rugby league game. I wonder if these are the same one game wonder football fans who were at Wakefield, Hull and Warrington last season?

Not just Widnes, there's plenty like it in every town. Unfortunately, they've attached themselves to the rugby club.
As for what to do, the blueprint is what they did at Hull FC. It was noticeable how the atmosphere changed for the better at games against FC after they took on the small problematic element amongst their fans.
