| Quote ="MjM"To be honest, whilst there is plenty of validity in asking McBanana questions on his team selection, the preponderance of s and simpletons within the RL press corps is unsettling. If I was faced with a barrage of the usual clueless questions from the likes of Chris Irvine, Peter Smith and Danny Lockwood I'd probably head for the exit too.'"
Can't blame the press for asking him about it, but once it was clear he wasn't going to talk about it and they tried rewording the question a few times hoping for a different result then they deserved to be walked out on. Seen it before in sport press conferences, they just repeat same unanswered question pointlessly and wasting everyone's time doing so.

When he storms out next week, he'll need to up the ante.
I suggest he knocks himself out unconscious by slamming his head against the locked door on his way out.
That should create a few more media headlines.

| Just seen Martin Offiah being interviewed on the BBC. Did ok and mentioned that the games were selling really well. The reporter, instead of saying how a 50,000 plus crowd is expected said "there will be about 20,000 empty seats here today... Not sure if other matches will sell out, if any of them."
Talk about negativity, and after such a positive week from the Beeb.

| I work overseas, albeit for a British organisation.
Few people seem to be aware the tournament is on.
Those who know of it perceive it as a 2 team tournament between Aus and NZ and think we will have trouble filling stadiums.

That's a terrible line from the reporter. If it were 50,000 empty seats, fair enough. Haven't we already got 1 sell out and the final expected to do so? Poor, poor, poor. Who was it?

| Bit of a piece on breakfast TV this morning, one in the studio and one in the stadium. Robbie Paul at the stadium laughed at the discipline questions didn,t sulk and walk away.
Looking forward to the half hour build up before the kick off.

Not sure of the guy's name - it was on the BBC news channel live inside the stadium. Really annoys me when they take this line instead of highlighting the positives.

But to be honest, what other sport wouldn't sell out in the UK for such a big, well-publicised opening to a major tournament? I can't think of one. Olympics - including all minority sports, football, RU. Things likeDancing on Ice, Strrictly Come Dancing sell out their national tours.
OK the crowds are good by RL standards but by British sporting standards for major events they are not.

| Really? You think the world hockey cup would fill a 70'000 stadium? I would suggest there are in fact only two sports in the UK that could fill the millennium stadium, soccer and union.
50,000 for where international RL, and the game generally in UK, is at is a brilliant result.

Not as venomous as I would expect from Mr Jones
Claimed this is the worst Australian side we have seen (really?)
Otherwise speaks how we need a good tournament and our league problems are similar to Welsh RU

its usually hard to find viewing figures for RL games, but i'm sure that figure is the biggest the sports had for years.

One page in the Sunday Times, but it is much further forward in the supplmement than usual, and before the RU coverage.
the afternoon kick-off times will be helping with the Sunday paper coverage, with the England games finishing by 4:30 there is no excuse for them not to get a proper match report

I know that this year Challenge Cup final peaked at 1.55m and averaged 1.21m.
2.4m for the England game is very good indeed for a Saturday afternoon.
