There was no tackle. Not even a poorly executed shoulder charge. A shoulder charge does not involve raising your arm/elbow to the side and following through for a start. What Chase executed was a deliberate strike at Ropati's head using his forearm and elbow.

It appears to me that Chase jumps into the 'challenge' and leads with his forearm with the intent to cause harm. Initial contact was on the chest but he didn't look like he intended it to stay down there and it ended up full on in the face.

Having seen that angle it does look deliberate. Chases only defence can be bad technique which he’s going to have to put one hell an argument in to convince them otherwise. Either way he’s looking a decent ban, 4 games minimum.

I wonder what Gronk's views would be if Ropati had put that hit on Chase?

So should Morley be banned for all his illegal tackles over the years? Should any player who cops a ban be banned for playing for England? Don't talk wet.

That angle is pretty damning - so much for bicep-gate, that's a full blown forearm smash. If there is any justice, Chase will spend the next couple of months as the most expensive water carrier in SL.

His celebration afterwards won't help his case either.

There are lots of variables here.

I'm not sure how the burden of proof falls in disciplinary.

The first decision will be what he is charged with -

Forearm is more lenient ; reckless is more lenient:

B-C Strikes with hand, arm or shoulder – reckless
C-D Strikes with hand, arm or shoulder – intentional

Elbow is worse (obviously) as is intent.

C Strikes with elbow – ball carrier – reckless
E-F Strikes with elbow – ball carrier – intentional

His other problem will be with aggravating factors:

Previous Record - I'm not sure of his past record
Violence - No place for acts of intentional violence or thuggery.
− Includes head butting, vicious attacks with fists, intentional high tackles, kicking a prone opponent, an assault on an opponent from behind, gouging.
− Unprovoked violent assaults punished severely & period suspensions considered.
Retaliation - wasn't an act of retaliation
Injury caused - If the Misconduct has caused injury to an opponent, this may result in a higher penalty than if no injury had occurred.
− Panels may consider the length of time an injured opponent is likely to be out of the game when passing sentence.

It is all about intent.If the panel proves intent (or if Chase fails to prove recklessness) then we are into 3 or 4 month bans rather than 3 or 4 matches...

They will take length of injury into account as well.

Do we know if Chase has actually been cited? The RFL Disciplinary page only lists players up to 9 April. Am I right in thinking hearings take place on a Tuesday?

Dunno about that. Apart from his petulant little outbursts when things weren't going his way, he looked very good against Hull. His main problem is that he's surrounded by crap.
