Never said that.I meant Warrngton have had followings of around 4-5000,sometimes in Yorkshire,(Leeds,Bradford)figures which were greater than some Trinity home games of the same seasons.

It's great news for the club whatever way you look at it. A plan is better than no plan at all and I can't think of many people from the area better backed and qualified to head it up than SRW.

Also i'll just add to AP that its amazing how smug and superior Wires have got since the HJ came about. Good set of fans usually, but they are becoming more KR like every day.

Wigan and Saints have always brought far more fans to BV than Warrington!!

I’m not denying that Wakefield have a good academy that is bringing through young talent to SL, but Widnes’ academies have also been doing this. There are 6 players currently placed in various SL squads that have come through our academies and we have 7 of our own youngsters in our own current squad. The RFL have deemed our accademy system as [i'World Class'[/i

This is being achieved while in the lower leagues. As a SL club we could achieve much more and tap into areas around us, where no direct competition exists for support and young talent.



The Widnes v Wire has been a derby game since the game was invented, whether it be as Lancashire or Cheshire. This alone makes it a more genuine RL derby than Wakey v Cas could ever be, since Castleford weren’t even around when our derby was created. It has been a substantially larger event over the years, and that has only changed because of our relegation and subsequent sojourn in the lower leagues.



Like I said, we got that four seasons ago, when in SL with a team near the bottom on the league.


I’m not having a go at Wakey here, but trying to address the blind ignorance of ‘The Clan’s’ desperate scraping of the barrel, trying to find positives where they just don’t exist.

My experience of the Warrington away following is that they are poor in terms of numbers. Not only at Wakefield but it's also noticeable that they have been poor at other grounds as well!

Absolutely spot on. All I want is to watch a game and hopefully my side win, winning is everything in sport.

Not seen all the thread but past few seasons wires support at Wakey has been rathe rpoor, and thats all we can comment on tbh!

I like Wakey and I'm keeping an eye out for them after the hospitality in the Challenge Cup game but, come on, just have a think about this one, yeah?

In play off games at Hull and Wigan we filled back of sticks ok there may have been the odd spare seat but not many!

It was obviously going to be liek that they were massive games for us!

He's kind of right we almost did I was there. The fugure we took to Hull was given as 3,800 if memory serves. Not quite filling it but not far off. At Wugan due to them opening only one turnstile many Trin fans missed the first half. But again I'd guess similar. We actually travel rather well.

Always had a very good and loyal hardcore. Attracting the ones beyond the hardcore has always been the problem, and Belle Vue is a lot to do with that. A new stadium will add on a few thousand extras who want to see something new, will add on more away fans who will be interested in a new stadium, and with a good ticketing strategy, I can easily envisage a 10,000 average. Other clubs will laugh at the figure, but last year's average was over 7,000, and so how much harder would it be to add on 3,000 in a new stadium? The people of Warrington can answer that question.

As an example, how many more existing fans will encourage a friend to go along, or will take their kids when they don't now because they know their kids won't get a good view? Compare how many away fans go to Huddersfield than come to Belle Vue.

It has to be remembered that Wakefield is a rugby town with a long and rich rugby history. It's not like pulling them into Quins. The interest is there, and the willingness to be interested, and so watch this space.

Good news for Wakefield and I hope it comes off. Most of the criticisms of the club have ed around the existing dilapidated stadium.

With, hopefully, increased crowds in a new stadium the club will be in a very strong position.

Yes, a lot of criticism of the club has centred around the existing dilapidated stadium. It is the biggest black mark against the club.

However a lot of sceptics on this thread have argued that the Wakey fans are getting too excited too soon, because of the economic climate.

It is going to be very, very hard to raise the money for such a project at this time. Sir Rodney Walker may be a great dealmaker, but he cannot change the psychology of gloom and doom that exists in the business community. When the clouds of recession lift, it could be another story. But no one knows when that will happen. And the clock is ticking for Wakefield (and Cas, and Salford) as we head towards 2011.
