its both a W and a Viking longboat at the same time. Its simple yet obviously had a lot of thought put into it. As a result its much cooler than any other modern RL logo as far as in concerned.

Listen, I know one or two of you has taken my comment to heart but I was using the wildcats logo to point out the hypocrisy in the original post.

| Logos of that nature make me feel quite embarrassed that I'm apparently following a sport which markets itself exclusively to children (and not very bright children at that by the looks of it). Association football clubs crests have a touch of class, and in some a cases possess an unparalleled simplicity in their aesthetics - why must they appeal to anyone in particular, but rather attempt to represent a club's identity, with its history and association to where its located? That "Bulldogs" logo is akin to vandalism upon the gallant youths.

You make some reasonable points so I think you'll like this: [urlhttp://www.canberra.edu.au/ucu/sports-fitness/sporting-clubs/rugby-league-club[/url
I'm not sure what historic references there are in the St Helens logo, maybe you should include coal mining, textiles and glass blowing
You could be known as the Coal Spinning Blowers, catchy eh.
(no insults intended, by the way)
You only have to do some google image searches to find the good, bad and plain strange in all sports.

To an extent but even ourlogo has had an overhaul back in 2004 IIRC. And even older ......

| I dont have any gripes either way, But I would ask why do clubs feel the need to change? The coat of arms of towns & cities have been around since before any of us were born & will be around long after we have passed into history. Why do they think younger supporters dont connect with the traditional badges? I can understand the mascots & how they are used to get the young kids involved but why chuck out your heritage & history.

It's about creating a brand. There would be little point in Leeds having Ronnie the Rhino for instance as a mascot and then that not be reflected in the club name or logo since it would massively devalue the effect of that mascot. For example it is a little strange to see a horse as mascot for a club called Harlequins. If it's called London Broncos it suddenly makes more sense.
Whilst it's disappointing that clubs had to resort this kind of branding, it has definitely improved the attractiveness of the club especially to kids (when it's done well) and this kind of focus on kids will reap benefits in the longer term.
What I would like to see though is the club/city/town crest also on team's shirts as well as the club logo. Best of both worlds in my view.

Where as three chicken bones in a row is great. Or before that the Viking which of course Widnes is famous for NO REALLY. There all a bit naff - pastiches - old and new, they are RL badges not ancient orders so does it really matter.

Interestingly, my club (Keighley) released a new shirt for their play off final. On one chest was the town Coat of Arms, and on the other the Cougar logo. A good balance IMO.

The Keighley town Coat of Arms would result in us being either the Stags, The Dragons, The Knights or the Serpents.
Most of the names would be OK but I'm not keen on Serpents
The name "Cougars" was chosen by the fans in the early 90's as an attempt (successful at the time) to relaunch the club.

Good on Keighley then
I wish Leeds would do similar, the Leeds Rhinos logo can stay in the normal place on the left and on the right there could be the Leeds Coat of Arms.

| Isn't the reason most clubs moved away from the town crests because they couldn't copywrite them and therefore get image rights. Wigan added an extra banner to theirs to get round this.
