I notice that all the 'big hits' in the NRL (see tubeyou) are not tackles at all, they are just collisions, bodychecks, shoulder barge call it what you will but they're not from the coaching manaual.

| It would be a massive rule change and one "the other code" has had for years. Does kind of mean the gym monkey's need a bit more skill methinks. Im very for it

Not at all, but it makes the tackle safer and in need of more skill.

Big Hits are a cornerstone of League. To "copy" the tackling style of Union would add nothing to the game. League players are coached to hit and make tackles and, as in Union, you will get the occasional injury, but it's no reason to change the rules.
Back on thread.
A coach of a team who lost at the weekend has had a pop at the referee/Judiciary....nothing in it. As for rule changes, I seem to recall Huddersfields tactics of wrestling whilst on the ground have been questioned a few times.....maybe the coach should concentrate on his side sticking to the rules already in place.

To be honest I think he is saying much more than that; he actually implies that aussie coaches in particular will bend every rule (and that includes him). He goes on to say that with more Aussie coaches likely to enter our game their negative rule bending will slow our game and be generally detrimental. He also implies that their is a hidden agenda amongst the disciplinary not to keep players out of the game for too long. If he is correct, then its a disgrace.
It was either a very brave and much needed dig at our ineffectual systems and officials, or a parting shot because he knows he is off back to Aus.
Players and coaches will only take the micky if they are allowed to.

No becuase he is operating a level playing field which is the RFL let everyone else get away with it then so will I.
He does however make the point that this is not a Huddersfield issue but an English RL issue. For that he is right

| Regardless of what Nathan Brown says it has always been the case that most fighting on the pitch is caused by weak refereeing. If a referee takes no action to foul play then all that is left is "mob justice". Regardless of what part of O'Loughlins body hit Robinson he should have been shown a card (elbow or shoulder influences what colour). Hitting a player after passing is at least as bad as hitting a kicker in my opinion.
One thing that is beyond dispute is that a cheap shot the smallest man on the field is a pretty cowardly act and is not what our sport is about.

Not sure how many times I have to say this.
A fraction of a second earlier Robinson had his back turned. He's still in the act of turning back round having just thrown the drop-off, which is why his arms are down. If you're going to turn your back and hide the ball to disguise your intent, you're going to get smashed at some point.
As for the shoulder to the head, you might find the main collision and use of force was with the arms to the chest. And so what if the shoulder hit the head? Players like Morley have made a career out of it. I didn't hear cries of "BAN HIM!!" when Morley flattened Hansen in a far more blatant attack to the head at the DW.
Get over it, it was late, deserved 10 mins, but it wasn't an attack to the head or high.
As for the NRL being 'safe' for playmakers, I think Brown might like to watch the North Queensland v Melbourne game, when Thurston was hit late twice in the first 12 minutes - he had to leave the field after the second shot, and is now out for 3 weeks.

You can state it as much as you want th epoint is IT was Late and it was high. whether it was arms, elbow, shoulder is relevant only when it comes to the disciplinary. the fact is it shoule have been punished more harshly.
To justify it because it is not as bad as something Morley has done previously is pathetic.
I have watched it numerous times and O Loughlins elbow is at Robinsons neck height. That may not be '' High'' as per the disciplinary but it shopuld still be taken out of the game.
We all know the rules need tightening ie if he had kicked the ball it would have been 10 mins in the bin but because he passed it then the ref was within the rules that does not make it right.
What all you Wigan fans seem to have an inability to understand is what Brown actually said
=#FF0000The RFL are weak
The referees are weak
The disciplinary system is a joke ( it even lets my players off when i think they should be banned)
Because the RFL is weak people like me and other aussie coaches who see the RFL as weak will manipulate this for our own ends.
Smaller skilful players are targetted by other teams sometimes unfairly.
The RFL need to make examples of players who break the rules to assert their authority
Wigan fanscan only understand
O Loughlin should have been banned for 8 games.
Yet i doubt there is any fan on here that would disagree with any of the bits in Red.
It seems that with Wigan winning again that their arrogance now knows no bounds. My team right or wrong and sod everyone else. Next you will start whinging about the Salary Cap.

Oh blah-de-bloody-blah with the Wigan "[iwinning again arrogance[/i". Change the record.
Yes, Lockers went in late (and no-one is denying it was late. D'ya hear: IT WAS LATE; we aaalllll know it). But - the arms went into the chest (granted Robinson doesn't have much of a neck but there IS a divide) - good lord there's even photographic evidence (elbow at neck height? What the hell are you watching?). Fair enough, the shoulder looks like it hit the head. The challenge was certainly to the upper body but there was NO attack to the neck or head. Stop making things up just to martyr your player.
What you've just basically highlighted is that Brown has spat his dummy at everyone and everything (again) just because Robinson got flattened in a late hit and his team lost. Well boo to him. Yes, smaller players get targeted - and bears sh{t in woods. No, the disciplinary aren't perfect but in general they get it right.
Now understand. Wigan fans KNOW it was late. Nearly all have said it deserved 10 minutes or to go on report. But purrleeeeese stop pretending it was an elbow attack to the head/neck. You can clearly see Lockers' left elbow hits Robinson in the central chest area. You can also see his right hand peeping out from behind his left arm. He has his arms crossed and NEITHER go anywhere near the neck. How does his shoulder manage to hit the face and his arm the neck? Look at the picture and you'll see it's impossible.
Quote ="RFL Disciplinary"In attempting to complete tackle player makes contact with head and neck of opponent. Player barges opponent after passed ball, no contact with forearm to head, but initial contact shoulder to head, player should have taken more care given opponent had passed ball and contact made after this, player entitled to make some contact with opponent but contact with head careless'"

I read browns dummy spit......funny how coaches only whine after their team lose.
I read the posters suggestion that maybe the rules of the game should be changed and tacklers should be made to wrap their arms around players...I disagreed.
Sorry if you don't agree with me, but I fully uinderstand what Brown was saying.....and I stand by what I have said.
"It's not about Wigan or Wigan players, it's about the whole game in general over here," he insisted
If that's the case, save your thoughts until after your team win..........
