before todays match against hull fc, i thought warrington were up there with wigan, but against a depleted fc team, without a recognised 6 & 7 for 3/4 of the game, a scoreline that flattered them in the end shows how far wigan are ahead of everyone else

What a load of absolute tosh. Wigan aren't much better than anyone. They are no better than several sides in Super League and are not concrete odds on favourites for Super League as people are making out.

Wigan are currently playing very well and it looks like Michael Maguire is not the kind of coach to let the team ease off - having said that, I can't see them as favourites a this stage

For me, there are four teams capable of winning Super League this year based on star players, coaching pedigree and strength of squad - in order on the league table, they are Wigan, Warrington, Saints and Leeds

Leeds are leaving themselves with a lot to do in the table to have a home run in the play-off's but they are still a massive threat on their day

If I had to put some favourites into the mix today I would say...

1st Saints
2nd Wigan / Warrington
3rd Leeds

Why? You really think you are 'much better (Note, not playing better, but overall a much better side) than the likes of Saints, Leeds, Warrington, Huddersfield, Hull KR and Hull? Would you also have Wigan down as odds on favourites for Super League this season? Massive call if you would as there is no recent trophy or even big game winning history to base that on.

IMO any of those sides has as much of a claim to a trophy this season as Wigan. You have come up with some impressive early season form, but no trophies are handed out for months yet.

Saints fans are quite happy to say that when they are below wigan but if you were above it would be a difference story.

We are quite aware that trophies are not given out yet, but surely being top of the league after 10 games is better than not being top of the league.

We are looking good for a top 2 finish, for the last 3 years the top two have contested the GF, thats ok with me.

We are playing better rugby than all the teams you mention. We also have an injury crisis and we are dealing with it.

I'm not putting Saints above Wigan on this seasons form - Wigan are above Saints in the table and rightly so

But I am putting Saints as more likely to win at Old Trafford in October though... not by much but I would say Saints are slight favourites

They’ve not even got out of third gear yet this season if you listen to some loyal 18 fans.

Personally I think that Wigan look the best team this season and will be interesting to see if they can keep it going for a full season. What Michael Maguire has done to Wigan is what Tony Smith did to Leeds in 2004. Wigan were already one of the best teams in England before Maguire took over and he only needed to make a few small changes to make them the best that their currently are.

Perhaps one thing a lot of people seem to forget about Leeds is the fact that people always lift their game to play the champions. This year teams are lifting it more than ever and that’s evident thanks to the early season losses!

Your actually spot on there damo. We have not hit full form yet and we have injuries. We now have a few easier games on paper so hopefully we can be going into the murrayfield game with an 8 game winning streak. Maguire has made all the small changes and its paying off, but we still havn't seeen the best from this wigan team.

I agree with Saddened, there's not an awful lot in it at all.
Wigan have been great but I'd still back Saints this year before them thus far.

We owned you men on friday and blew wakey off the pitch today joel tomkins is imo the best second rower in sl atm and it's not even close, we have got the depth in the squad to cover injurys (which atm we might have around 5)

Fair enough we are only 9 games in but i really think we will be top come end of the season

Wigan are in absolutely stunning form and have shown [uglimpses[/u of top form. However I think all the talk of not getting out of 3rd gear is absolutely nonsense.

But I have to agree that the best is yet to come from Wigan rather than the best behind you.

As a Wigan fan, I think you should reign in the rhetoric here. We did not own Saints on Friday, but it was a very very good win and well over due

As for blowing away Wakey, well Hudds did that and they got turned over by Salford today

Wigan should be very happy with the first third to the season but there is a long way to go and there are some great teams in this competition who could beat Wigan on any given day (one of them is even outside of the top eight)
