You are missing the point altogether. We are talking of a statue, which is by definition a work of art, here to commemorate the sport and its relationship to Wembley. Art does not always have to just acknowledge who won so it stands to reason that one of the most incredible sporting moments in the history of world sport should be a contender for the statue (how many people see the event does not make this claim any less credible).
If Fox's pose was commissioned (and I may have talked myself into saying it is now my first choice) then what better moment to capture exactly what rugby league is about and I don't just mean with Wembley either. Rugby league is about heroes, magic, flair, and physical/mental commitment of the highest order. However, most of all rugby league is about drama. Drama on the pitch every week unlike any other professional team sport in the world. Our sport creates so much drama that we call it entertainment because it is both. When Fox missed that kick it was dramatic but it was also the exact entertainment that gets me, you and everybody else going back for more week after week after week. If it wasn't we'd have stopped watching long ago.
Vote Fox!

Johnny Whiteley has an MBE and was also the last coach of GB to beat the Aussies in a test series. That was also achieved in Australia. He still devotes an incredible amount of hours to charity and is still helping sports youth in the community even though he is in his 80s. Plus he is as passionate about our sport today as he has ever been. Offiah and Hanley good players but everything they did was for financial rewards.Im not old enough to remember John playing but by all accounts he was a player of great skill and probably a bit before his time, a great athlete and a gentleman. Thoughts!

Completely agree. What a an absolute winner. This is the one. Somebody write to the RFL before they go and pick something far less interesting and forget to put this on the shortlist.
I'm in.
Vote Offiah/Fox.

| Given the rich historical significance between RL and Wembley Stadium which took place pre-Super League, the statue needs to commemorate a Rugby League event/individual from that former classical era.
There is no commemorative place for anything from the Super League era since the relationship between the game itself and Wembley has been downgraded by Super League's obsession with itself to the detriment of everything else in the game. Nothing of note has taken place at Wembley in Rugby League terms during the Super League era anyhow.
The Fox/Offiah idea is a good one BTW.

Possibly the worst and most uncompetitive CC final ever and four of the softest tries scored in the pro game let alone a showpiece event.
I'd rather wipe the whole day from th history books, it was a travesty of a game!
The Fox/ Offiah idea is growing on me

| So, with help from photoshop and a bit of creativity can anyone give us an artists impression of the would be Offiah-Trophy-Fox picture thingy? I'm crap at stuff like that. The RFL will have to be shown pictures because they won't have a clue who we're on about or what the images look like.

Imagine those two iconic images back-to-back on the same podium. It would be incredible. Tell me of another sporting statue that you know of that exemplifies the drama and entertainment of its sport. I can't think of one because usually their just boring portrait statues. It's also a bridge between the old part-time RL and the foundations of the professional era. It's absolutely perfect and whoever thought of the idea first should be applauded. Bravo!

more artistic and less arguments about the club/personality involved
get it commissioned!

Apart from the historic occasion of a French team and first non-English side reaching the final of the Challenge Cup, you are right

| I am going to be biased on this and Say Fox and only fox. His lengthy career was when rugby was more widely competitive as a whole and has contributed more to Rugby league than Offiah. Don't get me wrong Offiah was a good player but was part of a Wigan team that dominated rugby league at the time. Fox could only be described as a selfless player our contributed in every aspect of the game. I know some people will say that it's about Wembley but for me Fox is deffo deserved of this. Didn't Offiah also come RU back ground as well. Think Fox has an MBE as well?

We should be honouring the game not an individual player.

| Anybody know any important emails at the RFL that I can contact with reference to mentioning the Offiah/Fox statue. PM please if you can as I'm keen to ensure we can an artistic piece befitting our sport and not just another congratulatory and anonymous lump of something.
