Bet Fred are giving the league money for sponsorship.
If the highest profile player in the league won't back them then they are unlikely to keep doing so.
So yes it's an issue.

But the "Muslim argument" is entrenched in the debate as it is down to SBW's religious beliefs that he is against wearing the BetFred logo on his shirt. I'll give you a clue as to why, SBW is Muslim

I think he meant the 'anti-muslim' argument. If SBW were to turn round and say he can't play in our league because of the betting sponsorship not agreeing with his beliefs, I'd totally respect him for that. But you can't have your cake and eat it. Either way, the publicity is good for the league I guess so crack on.

From the post quoted by pt there is no "anti Muslim" argument, just a statement of fact that celtic market shirts devoid of sponsorship in order to be able to sell them to their Muslim fans, if anything that is in support of the Muslim community and most definitely not negative

No one here knows anything about the content of the conversation. He knew it was the Betfred Super League, I presume, but perhaps expressed to his club that he was a little uncomfortable with it, and his club said, "don't worry about it". A club he has bought shares in, by the way, where there might be a connection with their willingness to accommodate.

I’m bored of this guy already. It’s a season where we have countless quality players coming from over seas and ever second post from any rugby page is about SBW. Super league uploaded 8 photos from the Super League launch and 4 of them were of Williams! They really can’t market anything properly, Naive and mediocre imo

When they conduct on pitch interviews pre and post match they use the Perspex board full of lovely logo's of the sponsors. When Sonny 'I have my principles' Bill Williams gets his turn on the interview merry-go-round will they blank out any that offend his principles. I can't see them not wanting to interview him, after all he his a star or his he 2020's SL Star.

Nobody has any right to criticise SBW. A lot of people go through life with no discernible principles at all, they just live each day as it comes without thinking too much about the wider implications of what they’re doing. Some people have red lines which make sense to them but which may or may not be logical to other people. Just because you don’t agree with them or think they’re illogical doesn’t make them any less valid. Betfred seem to be ok with this so what’s the problem?

I would think that Toronto approached SBW and said
“ here’s a wedge of money to play in SL what do you say “ I wouldn’t think Bet Fred was ever mentioned until he’d signed the contract and banked the dosh.

I have no problem with those who have principals and beliefs other than they are a nuisance in that they believe that they are right the rest are wrong and want everyone else to join them and will preach or campaign to do so which I believe has a tendency to lead to argument and beyond. In this world even the principled have to have some give and take.

Slightly to one side of the theme how does the Toronto gig sit with Greta Tundbergh and her eco colleagues and those lovely Extinction Rebellion people (if one of that lot were to glue themselves to SBW in protest when they visit BV in May, assuming he's fit by then, that would be ok).

What gets me about this whole situation is that the club and player have made a big song and dance about it in the media as Toronto always have to do, painting the Betfred sponsorship/SL in a bad light. I am sure the player/club could have approached Super League in private and there would have been no issues, I doubt anyone would even notice that it was covered on the shirt...

We are talking about it. I'm sure everyone involved including BetFred are happy with it all.

I have principles. I want a world fit for my grandchildren to grow up in Flying teams across the Atlantic every week is a major contributor to fires happening now all over the world destroying trees that are the lungs of the earth. If they want to play rugby league in North America that's great and we could help them but not by admitting teams in to our league.
