| Quote ="roughyedspud"not sure what you mean...but what it suggests to me is that come the end of the season widdop will play 6 and kev will revert to the utility role as cover....so if you think about it like that it does show some forward thinking on Mcnamaras part.........god help us
'"
if that is the plan, then Lomax or Brown or AN Other young lad should have been picked for this game. Sinfield wont be playing at 6 in the 4N - so it would make sense to give a young player the chance to step up.

| no because sinfield will be the utility/no 14 bench spot in the 4nations....giving roby a breather if he needs it and being able to come on @ 6 or 13 should we need too change things about....
so it does make sense to have brough & sinfield playing together.....and we already know brough & brown can play together so we'd learn nothing new by playing them

We also already know what Sinfield can contribute at international level.
If Sinfield gets injured, then McBanana will have no choice but to throw in Lomax, Brown or someone else against the Aussies/Kiwi's - someone who wont have had the opportunity to have a step up in the Exiles game.

But Steve Mac played him completely differently - in every which way - to the way Kevin plays at the Giants. This is why Nathan Brown recently said that he hopes mac will select players and play to their strengths (not jerk them around). sadly we already have mac prattling on about brough's flamboyance That is the wrong focus. The essence is not to have brough 'showboating' it is clinically using his skills to wear down the opposition.
if K Brown were allowed to play for England in the way he does at the Giants then we would get much more out of the 'strike capability' of players like Ellis Burgess (Hock?) - this is somewhere where we might actually hurt the oz / kiwi teams.

| McBanana was a comedy appointment by the RFL and his selection only confirms the point.
JJB - WTF?
Wilkin and Atkins - Not International quality
NO recognised stand off?
NO Yeaman
Martin Gleeson is still a better centre than any of the one's selected.
We're going to get dicked if that Exiles team turns up 25% interested.

| Thats tosh and you need to read League express less.
A halfback that can't kick properly, put players into holes and doesn't have the vision to pick the right option runner isn't being stifled by his coach.

Brown is one of the best players in SL re pass selection and execution so you must be refering to someone else......
You have provided an excellent description of Myler. You have a point.

he wasn't good i agree, but to be fair he didn't play the way he plays for us,he played a different game to his club game which was the coach's doing.
it's no good picking players on their club form then asking them to a completely different job for the national side,it's never worked that way.
but kev brown is still a very good stand off and had he been asked to partner brough and do the job they do at club level then it could have paid dividends.

| The World Cup is obviously the aim, but i think we need to win a four nations tournament to stand a chance in a WC. The chances of winning a WC after years of not winning an international tournament are remote. Winning an international tournament will give the England team the belief that NZ/OZ are beatable. I believe NZ'S 2005 tri-nations success helped them win the WC, bevause they knew OZ were beatable. So Mcnamara has to choose the squad to win here and now. So if a 33 y/o is playing better than his 20 y/o counter part, then Mcnamara should play the 33 y/o. Last year i felt we took to many young players and it showed.
HOWEVER the squad Mcnamara has chosen is a joke because the "experienced" players he has chosen aren't in form. Has he been watching a different JJB to me? Lee Gilmour has been excellent this season (again), he proved himself at international level (unlike many of the others selected) yet he doesn't seem to get picked becase of his age. Then we go pick Wilkin and JJB who are only a couple years younger, but aren't in any form and have been tonked in test matches. Think the Exiles could be comfortable winners in this.

JJB has been excellent for the last 2 months. Probably one of the few Leeds players who deserves consideration.

| 'Myler - he's not a 6'
With most teams opting for an extra middle player & using 6 & 7 as first recievers lhs / rhs with the fullback doubling up as 2nd reciever down both sides - please tell me why Myler couldn't play 6?

Keep guessing. You need to as your knowledge base seems very low.
Sadly your ignorance about how mac played kevin brown vs Nathan brown's approach is clear for all to see.
Your description of Myler was spot on.

| I would not mind seeing Myler at 6 outside Broughy for this one. DB will control the kicking game, giving Myler licence to play a bit more off the cuff a bit wider. From what i have seen of Myler he does not seem to be a controlling half, more of a running style player, which would fit in well outside Brough. Myler or McGuire will have to go really well from now to the end of the season to play 6 in the Tri nations though as Widdop seems to be playing really well at the Storm. He leads the line breaks for Melb and always seems to be mentioned in the match reports. Good to finally have options at half back for a change.

| What does everyone feel is our strongest England 17 when fit and available? I've come up with the below, and still wouldn't be at all confident against either NZ or Aus.
1. Widdop
2. Hall
3. Gleeson
4. Shenton/Yeaman
5. Briscoe
6. Pryce
7. Tomkins S
8. Graham
9. Roby
10. Burgess
11. Ellis
12. Westwood
13. O'Loughlin
14. Morley
15. Peacock
16. Tomkins J
17. (As we have no decent reserve hookers) Sinfield
