| Yes, lets move the magic weekend to a stadium just off the M62, that will really spread the game. FFS.

| Quote ="thepriestman85"You can't have it both ways tho as although the two events you mentioned fill 80k stadiums we can't fill it for international games which should be the pinnacle of RL for all of us. We can’t have empty stadiums for such a big games as it makes us look bad.
Don't know what says about the state of international RL tho
'" having our own stadium won't improve the national game - the problem there isn't where the games are played its the players that are playing the game!
The best way to get crowds to the international games is good PR and Marketing, trying to get plenty of media coverage and more importantly put together a team of players who can compete on an international level.

I did say possibly btw when questioned on what could be played there.
Do you not think it would be a major boost to have our own stadium to call our own. As far as i can see we are the only potential major sport which doesn't have one. Some names are intertwined with the sports they house Wimbeldon, Wembley, Lords and Twickers everyone knows the sports they hold and they are known as the homes for that sport what is our home?

| If we had a national stadium and it was in the north, I think we could say goodbye to the challenge cup. How many neurtals would actually go then?

Thats the one thing i don't think should ever change. The Challenge Cup final should always be at Wembley, its tradition and should stay that way.

Do other sports not have this problem then?
I wasn’t by any means saying it was a perfect idea just wondering what people thought about getting a permanent base that was better than the stadiums we currently have in the league to properly showcase our top games in.
I do feel we need a base however that people know as the home of RL.

Ashbourne, Derbyshire (why not) central and unknown
capacity
80 k
sliding roof like millenium stadium
use it for concerts too and anything else except athletics (no dodgy running track) make it intimate as possible with the front row only a metre from the touch line
Build it and they will come

You've answered your own question. And the sooner we return to the pre99 status quo and play internationals there as well as the Cup Final the better.

Tbf i've always thought of Wembley as our national stadium and i think they should house the Internationals there but is it really 10 years since we last played and international there? That’s appalling!

| No.
1. Funding the thing is a bit of an issue.
2. We tend to play our internationals in a series of three or more. It would be pointless playing Australia or New Zealand for three weeks at the same venue.
3. The venues that we do use are currently ideal in terms of capacity, (presumably) cost and location. We've got Wembley, Old Trafford, Elland Road and the COM, all in England, all with capacities of 40k+ that we regularly use - what is wrong this those venues?
4. Modern sports venues (successful ones at least) are open seven days a week, 365 days a year - what over events do you propose to keep the venue profitable?
5. I'm not that keen on the idea of a "National Stadium" anyway, regardless of sport. The England football team should be for all to see, not just 80,000 cockneys. IMO, it was much better when the England football team played at venues across the country (even if they did tend to 'reside' at Old Trafford towards the end of their road-trip).

| We barely have an 'international game' so I can see no need to be building a 50k seater stadium to be used 3 times a year. Or 10 at the most.

Fair enough like i said it was a point i'd like to know other peoples opinions on and you've definatly summed the reasons up for not doing it.
I just see the success that say RU has with Twickers and it seems like we will never get to that level fi we keep moving for place to place.
Although the players aren't good enough I know, one day we will have a ‘golden generation’ which would be greatly enhanced if we played in a our own stadium.
Also the internationals would work as we wouldn’t be playing the same team every week if it was a tri nations tournament.

good point actually, maybe it's the lack of any serious worldly competition that hinders the building of a home to rugby league
Lets have a stadium for
Great Britain v Australia
Great Britain v New Zealand
Australia v New Zealand
England v Australia
England v New Zealand
pointless really when you actually sit down and think
Lets just ground share Twickers and call it the home of rugby
