| I will go to this but I am not happy about it being in Feb. It is gonna be damn freezing and I see no reason why the RFL couldnt hold it in Cardiff during May or June. I went murryfield this year and that was cold enough, I was planning to do two days next year instead of one but I am not sure if I can sit through all them games freezing my nuts off!
From my understanding, the stadium is has not got heating in the stands so even with the roof closed it will still be very cold!

| People on here are going on about how its not hard to save, its not hard get time of work. Exactly how do you know everyones situation? It can be very hard to afford it for some and it can very hard to get time of for some. Many businesses have their holidays from april to april and many people may have already sorted their days off for that period.
As for cost, it is an expensive weekend, especially if your taking a family. It is 6 weeks after christmas and not everyone will be able to afford it. Whether you like it or this weekend is far from simple and imo the attendance will show this.
Have you considered that some fans just arent happy having to pay so much and take time of work for what is just a regular season game? Especially as Cardiff in feb is hardly appealling.
I can see why people will like it and I can see why people wouldnt. But some of you really need to look at it from other peoples point of view as it aint simple, not for all anyway.

| I want the summer carnival feeling. Everyone walking about town with the teams colours on etc. Who wants to do that in freezing wet weather.
I really dont see how having the magic weekender in Feb is good for the fans?

| Quote ="jonny the leyther"It's not exactly hard to get time off is it? Even if you work Saturdays and Sundays, which I do, it's 4 days tops. '"
That's pretty ignorant.
Some people only get a certain amount of days off work a year. As has already been said, April-April means most people will already have booked their holidays off by then. And some people only get set holidays, i.e. teachers. It's not as easy as "boss, can I swap shifts with someone next weekend?"
Quote ="jonny the leyther"And travel down? Hows that a problem? Just book a train ticket or drive.'"
Driving's been covered. If we have another cold winter like this year, the roads will be frozen. Many won't fancy a 4-500 mile round trip in icy conditions.
And it's about £100 for a return ticket from the north to Cardiff. So on top of taking time off work (and losing money from that), you think it's easily affordable for the average RL fan?

| think most people are annoyed because of accomodation, depending what day fc play, i'll be doing the day trip, just like the last time i went to cardiff for MM
as for the people who moan about being expensive, why don't they go a weekend without getting p!ssed up or buying fags!

Unfortunately it's a bit more expensive than "going a weekend without getting p*ssed". RL isn't everybody's life unfortunately. Like I say, I'll save for it. But many won't. It's not as big a deal as a final, and it's not as important to most RL fans as football is to most football fans (i.e. diehard, most go, sod the family and finances kind of thing).

Too funny.
You know very well that people are claiming its easy to book a Monday off but what about school?
There are lots of reasons people can't go and they shouldn't be vilified for it.
If i could go, i would (its my birthday on the Sunday after all!)

| A SERIOUS question.
Who does the Magic Weekend benefit?
There HAS to be a primary beneficiary so who is it?
My view is SKY.

| I am glad they have moved it. I was thinking of not going this year if it stayed the same. This I like about it...
1. The worst weekend in the season for weather will be spent indoors. Nice and dry, beer in hand.
2. New signing for other clubs interests me. I was interested to see how Hull, Wire and the Bull would go at the beginning of this season. By the time it got to mid-season at MM last year the pub seemed more interesting.
3. I will be starved of Rugby so I will want to sit through 7 games (OK I will skip the Quins game first thing on Sat)
4. The squads will be strong and the intensity high.
5. No other events anywhere near that time. No beer gardens, holidays or anything else fun to do instead. Valentines Day? I am sure a weekend away is just what the other half will be after.
I have booked 2 nights in a hotel and I am really looking forward to it. See you all there.

| I personally think its a great idea. There are a couple of downsides but the positives far outweigh the negatives which are as follows;
1) Will launch the Super League properly with much better media coverage in the national and regional press.
We have been complaining for the past few years that SL kick offs and no-one knows it has begun.
2) Fans phsycologically will attend this event more than a random round of fixtures. I personally have never attended a magic weekend as I'm not fussed to travel all that way for just another league game. For the opening weekend + the chance to check out all the teams for the 1st time with their new signings really excites me. This should help crowd numbers + fans will have been starved of RL over the off season and therefore should turn up in larger numbers.
3) Playing at the Millenium under a closed roof will gaurantee good playing conditions in comparison to playing in the snow / winter weather.
4) Playing it in Wales will really help to promote / advertise the game in the principaility which should be a real boost to the Scorpions + Crusaders. Also both teams will hopefully bring fans along. Playing in Scotland where we dont even have a Championship 1 club helps no-one.
5) The season now has a showpiece event at the beginning (Feb), middleish (August) and end (October).
6) The RFL will have a whole preseason to market the event and therefore have a huge lead in period to promote the concept to ensure a decent crowd.
The negatives are not being on a bank holiday weekend, the weather for travelling supporters (however thousands of fans still made it to Wrexham for the Crusaders v Leeds game in the snow) + the reduction in money generated by opening home games for the clubs.
In summary I think it is an awesome idea and hope it becomes an annual fixture which grows in popularity each year.

Me for a start. An entire weekend of RL less than an hour from home. Even to watch Scorpions home games involves an hours journey each way & doing some maintenance on the mother in laws house whilst I'm in Neath.

| To those who are worried about it being a bit chilly in the Stadium.
As I said in an earlier post, I went to see the Wales Rally GB in December a couple of years back & before going thought to myself "Its a Saturday night in December, I'm not going to be cold, no siree!" So my attire for the evening was; walking boots, thick walking socks, a pair of heavy duty trousers, Thermal base layer, long sleeved shirt, jumper, Sheepskin flying jacket, hat, scarf & gloves. I may have looked like the Michelin man but at least I was warm. The upshot of all this was that after 3 hours of sitting in the top tier the hat, scarf & gloves were in my rucksack & the flying jacket & jumper had come off as I was too warm.

| I think this is a great idea.
After months of RL starvation I now get to not only watch my teams first game of the season but also another 6 games. FANTASTIC!!
I am however struggling with why people have to have the Monday off work? Or why it will be expensive.
We'll be going down early Sat morning staying in our £46 park inn room Sat night and them driving home after the games Sunday night. I'll have a good drink on Saturday and stay sober Sunday so I can drive home. I'll still enjoy the rugby just as much on the Sunday, probably more as I won't be pi$$ed. I'll then go to work on the monday having had a good weekends entertainment.
The room is already paid for. The tickets will be bought as soon as they come out ( no doubt discounted with my season ticket as it normally is). So after Christmas all I will need to have is money for food drinks and petrol for the weekend. So in the grand scheme of things not that much to have to find is it.
Some people will just find an excuse they can to not go and to have a go at the RFL. The RFL should be applauded for trying something new and thinking "outside the box"

I do applaud the RFL for thinking outside the box, as I have said. However, many people like to have a drink at the rugby, as well as have a drink when they are "away". It's going to be a long day for some if they are driving for 5-6 hours, watching rugby for 6-8 hours on both days and it's not that attractive a thought for some. People may just watch 2-4 hours of the rugby and go, making the stadium look emptier.
I know I'll be doing my best to be able to stay the full weekend (or getting someone else to drive for a bloody change!) so I can drink both days. It's part of the fun for me.

| For the last few years people have said MM should be the start of the season. Since it changed, those same people have said it will be too cold and it's too close to Christmas.
Some people are just never happy!
