Quote The law and order situation in Papua New Guinea continues to pose serious risks to travellers. Violent crime, including armed robbery, carjacking and sexual assault, is common throughout the country, especially in urban areas such as Port Moresby, Lae and Mt Hagen. The settlement areas of urban centres, including in Port Moresby and Lae, are particularly dangerous. '"

elsewhere on the planet, those people from differing tribes and regions have through the process of social development and basic evolution, merged, mingled and in the vast majority of cases, got on with each other. PNG is as close to pre-historic as you can get and if it weren't for the rich veins of minerals, gas and Oil, it would be un-populated by any civilised beings.
Ireland, Scotland Wales and England all have their own "languages" but also use a common one to communicate....PNG isn't like the British Isles at all.....in fact it's like no other place on earth!
I repeat...claiming PNG as a hotbed of RL is akin to claiming prison is a hotbed for UFC. You don't have to agree with my viewpoint but it's worth asking that of the successful PNG Hunters side from last year, how many are in the starting 17's of NRL/SL sides this year......aggression and violence are part of our sport, but there is so much more to it than that, but it is the aggression and violence that attracts PNGians to the game......not a good look!

| Yes we all remember the riots, slaughter in the streets, attacks on the visiting teams during the World Cup. Not forgetting the Intrust Cup teams that always come back robbed and bleeding.
They must have happened because some experts on here have seen it from their bedrooms thousands of miles away.
There has been some spectacularly ill informed garbage on here. For all the law and order problems in PNG visiting RL teams are invariably given the warmest of welcomes and the only problem they face is getting a bit of peace and quiet from the numerous well wishers.
In particular ignore the utter tripe put out by the Australian High Comm which houses a bunch of ill informed self serving cowards who hide in their fortress and big up the dangers to boost their pay.
It's great that an England team are going. It should be a good experience for the players, it will be good for the sport in PNG as well. In any case to those denigrating PNG, it may make you feel superior but as a country is PNG worse than the fascist dictatorships RU has supported through its history or the human rights abusing countries Formula 1 seems to love so much these days?

| It's always had its problems. Tear Gas Test of 1990 anyone?
But the England team will get a warm welcome and provided they follow the travel advice they'll be safe. It'll be a great life experience for them too and create some bonds that will last for life. You can't beat a good tour.

| Wow.
Cant believe the negativity regarding the Knights "tour" of PNG.
Some reward for PNG's efforts in the world cup and some excellent experience for the players who are lucky enough to get selected.
There may be some issues with certain areas within PNG but, you would think that the organisers, both from PNG and England, may just be aware of this and they are sure to take every precaution to ensure player safety etc.
In our modern world, there are too many people who read something negative and assume that we're all doomed.
As I said, what a great opportunity for the squad.

So to summarise, you haven't been there, don't have any contact with anyone who is or has been there but you are an expert on the place.
The only relevant facts are that last year's World Cup teams, every Queensland Cup team and the NRL Presidents XIII annual visit have gone ahead untroubled. Liveability has knack all to do with it - it can be a great place for a team to visit. After all closer to home I quite enjoy visits to London but would hate to live there. Your "facts" however have little or nothing to do with visiting sports teams who are hardly going to be banished to a dodgy squatter settlement or a remote village.

So what's the issue then? They'll be guarded and pretty bloody safe it appears!
I'm not going to pretend PNG is anything but a dangerous place to live though. I agree there. However, there will obviously be safeguards in place so it's not an issue. If anyone actually has the most to travel to watch them, in pretty sure they'll be able to find a safe place to stay also.
