Get a grip - the RU world cup has been held in the three continents in which the sport has a serious presence - Europe, Africa and Australasia - it has nothing to do with the German occupation that the RUWC was held in France.

The fact after 70 years French RL is in the state it is down to two things - administration ineptitude and the public's preference for another sport.

RL - great product that it is - struggles to expand in Australia beyond its traditional base - you only have to look at Melbourne and Canberra. Melbourne the most successful side in the SL era, a club in existence since 1998 with no competition, in the second biggest city in Australia struggles to get 13,000 a game. The same can be said of Canberra. In the UK we have the same issue - the sport is not wanted outside of its heartland. You love the sport more than anyone - but not enough to attend games on a regular basis.

I will never understand why so many people go and watch soccer but the attendances don't lie - unless you are recording for the NRL

Lets be honest, Thurston has come out of this latest round of negotiations very poorly IMO - just comes across entirely as a greedy sod. Basically unless he wanted to move to France there were no other options open to him as the ARU has stopped offering big bucks to NRL players.

As well I know as I enjoyed watching the Warriors beat the Eels at Mount Smart on a lovely day in South Auckland back in 2008, followed by watching Mason's first game against the Bulldogs in Sydney a few days later, as well as being a season ticket holder for Harlequins Rugby League.
