| Quote ="Cokey"He's done a video press interview causing all this hysteria, hence Asiata receiving death threats as well. '"
The link between him complaining about the RFL's handling of two very serious incidents and Asiata receiving death threats are just wrong. If he has received threats that reflects only on the mentality and character of those that have sent them. There was very little about Asiata in the interviews, most of it was aimed at the RFL and their handling of it.
He's perfectly entitled to talk about issues in the game. Especially ones that have been handled so poorly by the RFL. Is Rohan Smith a disgrace as well? Does he need a fine?
I'll leave it there as you're clearly not even looking at any aspect of this with anything other than blind backing of your side. To not be able to see there is an issue with the technique is bizarre, but I'm not going to convince you otherwise.

| Jesus wept Saddened. Take a breath.
He hasn't "Speared his bodyweight through someones knee"
He's tackled somebody hard around the legs in a last ditch, try-saving effort.
It was brave, determined defence.
I've every sympathy for any injuries but it wasn't illegal, it wasn't pre meditated and this over reaction is coming across as increasingly ridiculous.

The fact he did it 4 times suggests it was pre meditated, though. It’s not like he’s made a miscalculation in a desperate attempt to tackle a player. He consistently employed this technique in the tackle as obviously a tactic to nullify the effects of our bigger men. I don’t know how it’s been found to be legal, as far as I’m aware attacking the knee joint has always been illegal but the MRP are probably the worst at their jobs out of anybody in the world.
His technique is outlawed both in the NFL and NRL. Why it wouldn’t be here is just bizarre, but not particularly surprising

Heard a few times now that this has been done 4 times. I haven't seen any footage of incidents 3 or 4. I've seen the Paasi incident and the Walmsley one and I'm confident the MRP made the right call on both.
Nobody has shown these 3rd and 4th incidents yet that I've seen. Have you seen them? Can you supply anything to back up your claims on them?
Genuine question. I am happily defending Asiata on the 2 tackles I've seen. I can't defend 4 incidents when I've not seen 2 of them.

| It's all just part of the RFL conspiracy to stop the mighty Saints. Banning them didn't work so now it's injuring them.
I expected this reaction from saddo, judder and the site troll but the reaction from the rest of the family has been quite comical and cheered me right up after Wigan got beat.
I said on here in the week that they've built this narrative that they're hard done to all the time but this goes to another extreme.

These ones are pretty close to the mark but judged legal by the RFL when examined closely.
The world isn't out to get St Helens and that club and its fans constantly throwing their toys out of the pram every time they lose a big game is really starting to get tiresome.

| Wellens mentioned in an interview that Asiata used this technique in round 3.
Why didn't Wellens pursue this at that time?
Obviously, being proactive is not his strength.

They were desperate attempts to stop the forward momentum of the Saints player, with no thought for self-preservation. I doubt he gave a second's thought to potential injury to Paasi or Walmsley, or himself.

If you are going to just purposely aim your shoulder into someones knee knowing full well that the only outcome is a hyper extended knee, then yeah, you have given it a seconds thought.
Thats why no one else in the league does it.

| Quote ="Saddened!"The issue isn't tackling the legs, why are you being so childish about it? It's the force and directness and the angle he's doing it from. He's spearing his body into the knee joint and the chances of it causing injury are horrendously high, the knee has nowhere to go and it cannot bend in that direction. Players simply don't tackle like that. Again, I'm not bothered about banning him, I couldn't care less, but we can't be encouraging tackles like that. It's madness.'"
I've seen your comments on Redvee also, you come across as a bit of a 'drama queen'. Poor Mike Cooper missed nearly the whole of the season because of a bad tackle by Morgan Knowles, and unfortunately you have ONE player who will miss a similar amount of time because of a 'last ditch' tackle around the knees by a Leigh player. And obviously if Leeds Rhinos beat you on Friday, all your buddies will be blaming the current dirtiest player in world rugby, John Asiata.

| Well it seems the consensus is that we all want to see more of these tackles.
So be it.
But for me it's the same as a Cumberland throw, that was fine for a while until enough injuries took place.
But let's get coaching it as no one seems overly bothered.

To be fair, fans of big clubs like Wigan and Leeds (except for the trolls on this thread) agree that they were terrible tackles. It’s only fans of small clubs like Warrington and Leigh that get pleasure out of St Helens players getting maimed because that’s all they have to cheer about

In the case of the Paasi tackle, the shoulder hit the thigh, not the knee.

Absolutely this. I've watched the Paasi tackle a number of times and it's the thigh he makes first contact with.
I don't think he goes out to deliberately injure the pair, they're both desperate attempts in my view but there's only one player who can truly answer that question.
I'd appreciate an opinion of Morgan Knowles' season ending tackle on Cooper from Saints fans who have an issue with Asiata.

I think you are missing the point, he is hurling himself into the tackle reckless to himself and the opponent. The Walmsley one was a head charge and the Passi one was a shoulder charge, at that point it wasn't a tackle until Asiati used his arms. He also does this neck high as well the one he executed against a York player was late and high with no arm wrap. I,ve really not seen in detail the damage he did to LMS and Knowles.
We don't know where he has got this technique from because its banned in the NRL and the RFU, if has got the green light to carry with this technique then its only a question of time when he snaps knee and and ankle ligaments again, it just looks dangerous and shouldn't be glorified.

I don't know what the ruling is in Aus, perhaps you can clarify, but the Paasi tackle is should & arms, so why is it banned? The Warmsley he does seem to just throw himself head first in the way of his legs.
