| The commercial reality is that it's highly unluckiest Sky will be making these changes to reduce the amount being paid for their packages.
Sure they'll have lots of spin on how it's good for their customers, and there'll be pockets of examples where certain individuals will save - but ultimately, they'll have crunched the numbers and will know if the customer base remains as is, they'll earn more.
At absolute best there might be a short term reduction, but they'll be working on a longer term plan that will see profits rise - they're a business after all.

| That's the question we're pondering-
If the Main Event channel is only available to those who already have the other sports channels, and it only shows the same sports too, what is the point of it (unless it shows some exclusive content) ?

| It's either the main event channel has exclusive content. Or the main event channel isn't available exclusively to full sports package customers and can be subscribed to on its own.

The main event channel will simulcast the big events taking place on the other channels. It's only available to those who subscribe to all channels. It's just a way of being able to access all the major events through one place so you don't have to keep changing flicking between them.
You can't subscribe to it.

| I wonder if they've reduced their commercial rates for pubs etc ?
My local pub dropped Sky Sports due to the high cost (I live in a village) but I'm sure they'd take up the Premier League package if it was a reasonably lower price than before.

| It's already begun, Amazon Prime are streaming the NFL Thursday night games from next season.
Quote ="TheUnassumingBadger"Super League definitely needs to be looking at alternative deals for TV when the rights come around. Personally I think Sky are stuck 20 years in the
past. Amazon are already looking at buying the rights to the IPL cricket apparently and if they or Google or any of the other tech firms look at buying Premier League rights, Sky can't compete and I think it will be end of them as a company.
It's easy to envisage buying a season pass to stream sports like they already have in the US, it would be great if something like that was available for Super League, a couple of live matches a week and access to recordings of all the other matches, I would certainly pay more for that than I would for Sky Sports.'"

| I guess the difference is that Amazon will just be buying a broadcast from another provider to stream.
If Sky wasn't broadcasting RL, then someone would have to pick up the broadcasting and production side of things, which is where the overheads come in and cost/subscription price increases.
I didn't watch RFL streamed England match, but I guess it didn't have the same production values as when Sky or the BBC show live games. Likewise the BBC streaming of the CC early rounds was enjoyable, but was predominately just a single fixed camera.

Not true
BT's own website says rugby league will be televised on Main Event too
What's coming up on Sky Sports Main Event?
You can look forward to:
England Test Match Cricket on 18 July
The Open Golf from 20 July
Live Super League action from 20 July
Live F1 Hungarian GP from 28 July

Both of the Thursday and Friday games next week are also on the Main Event channel (Wire v Widnes, Wigan v Leeds). Both times they are just showing the game (8-10pm rather than the 7.30-10.30pm full programme on Sky Sports Arena). However the Cats v Cat game on the Saturday is just on the Sky Sports Action channel.
Looks like it will be pot luck as to whether the game will be on Main Event channel - depending on what other big games/events are happening at the same time.

That's a joke if some games are only going to be broadcast on there.

This weekend - yes. I don't know what future plans are but it looks a pointless exercise when RL is on several channels. Might as well just keep the whole Sky sports package.

| Looking at the whole mess I think it is time for the sport to bin sky & hope the RFL can get Premiere sports to broadcast our game. Or go down the route of online by the clubs themselves. I got fed up with Sky two seasons ago & only use now TV for the odd game I want to see. I just hope it will not stop me watching the NRL on Premiere as you had to have a sky card number to get the online service? I got mine set up using my old card number just hope it will stay valid.

| The fact that despite the amount of money Sky has spent on Premier League football you only need to pay for one channel to watch it seems ludicrous, especially considering to watch Rugby League you need to pay for two.

| Just an advertising gimmick IMO. Don't think there'll be any real change to the cost for anyone wanting to keep their current level of RL coverage.
