Pretty sure there wasn't a similar thread two years ago the last time Wigan won it.
The thread exists because the game was awful. I can't imagine any Wigan fans caring how they won though - I wouldn't give a flying proverbial if Salford managed to win a Challenge Cup Final 1-0 in the most boring game ever if it meant us winning the cup! However, for the neutral it was for the most part painful to watch.

You are wasting your time.
Wigan fans are too busy polishing that turd of a final.
Can you imagine their enthusiasm for polishing turds if they ever won SL from 5th?

There was a quick cloudburst last year but didn't last long - only a brief glimpse of it on the [url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-league/19384349BBC highlights[/url. It also rained in patches in 2011, but neither were on the same scale as today by some distance. Wouldn't call either 'wet' finals.

| This is a weird thread - Wigan won something in a poor and dour rain soaked game which was still far better than a standard soccer/RU final = end of the world doomsday apocalypse scenario for RL. Poor game in poop conditions, grow a pair everyone and move on.
God knows what will happen if Wigan now go on to win the GF - the day of reckoning no doubt, denziens of Dante's infernio roaming the earth etc
On a (not much) much more serious note, how much does Bentham's TV "backpack" weigh? It looked huge on tv. Surely it must slow him down or affect flexibility? Given the only benefit appears to be close ups of pained defensive captains arguing about a penalty is it work the weight/ratio referee performance reduction?

| It peed it down, the ground was sodden, it would have made the handling exactly the same, wet shirt, wet hands, wet ground and wet ball would have been identical regardless if it rained constantly or heavy for 25 minutes, once you're wet, you're wet.

| Funny how all these armchair supporters remember wetter games. If you weren't there today, you can't really comment. It was torrential from about 1pm till the final whistle, not for a 5min spell...

| Quote ="Cronus"This is a funny funny thread.
Honestly, what did people expect in those conditions? That was the first rainy CC Final in 18 years '"
That is an interesting fact. But basically meaningless. Just because CC Finals haven't been played in the rain hasn't stopped thousands of other games being played in the rain. The players don't get excused for being dog excrement in the rain just because other CC Finals weren't played in the rain
Quote not just wet, the rain was atrocious at times. And yes, those Rhino balls are f*cking terrible in the wet (not even that good in the dry).'"
That's news to me, and also an interesting fact. It's just unfortunate that it was also news to the two teams on the pitch as well.
Quote It was always going to be an error-strewn and physical contest, as wet games normally are.'"
It still could have been error-strewn and physical without boring the life out of everyone unfortunate enough to watch it.
Quote Wigan simply played the conditions better and were outstanding in defence, and Smith's kicking game was as good as I've seen at Wigan for a long time. Hull, for their part, showed superb defence for the most, defending repeat sets several times, and effectively marked Tomkins out the game. Unfortunately they turned over far too much ball and were never going to win with such poor completion.'"
I wouldn't disagree with much of this. I'd say it was a pretty accurate summation of the game. Unfortunately your summation of the game was about 100 times more entertaining than watching the game was. And while your summation was pretty accurate, it still wasn't entertaining. So take your minimally entertaining summation, divide it by 100, now spread that over 80 minutes. That's not a good way to spend an afternoon.
That's why people are reacting badly to it. Most people would have been looking forward to the game. I certainly was. Most people would have expected as least some enjoyment out of 80 minutes of passionate RL. But we didn't really get any.
I take it you're a Wigan fan? I can understand why the game wouldn't be as terrible to you as it was to neutrals. Your team have just won a trophy and done it in a pretty professional manner. Job done for you. But today's game for neutrals was a complete waste of two hours of our life .

Don't talk such utter sh:te. A quick cloudburst does not make the ground 'sodden' at all. It drains quickly (especially on world class pitches!) and seeing as there was also plenty of sunshine last year things also dry quickly.
Not even sure what your argument is. Is it "my wonderful Warrington won in better style in torrential rain "? Today was far, far wetter than last year.

I enjoyed it and bearing in mind Hull were 2 scores in it until the last minute it was fairly tense from a Wigan fan's perspective. But here you are debating with neutrals about it.
I'm a Chelsea fan. Our CL final win, our FA Cup Final win against Man Utd, I can imagine that to neutrals those two games weren't very interesting. I can understand neutrals slagging off those finals. I COULD NOT CARE LESS ABOUT THE OPINIONS OF NEUTRALS ABOUT THOSE GAMES. So therefore I wouldn't be going on message boards afterwards trying to persuade them that the games weren't so bad if they were bitching.
You're a Wigan fan. Enjoy your victory. Enjoy your enjoyment of the game. Just be thankful that you didn't have to watch that game as a neutral though, because it was dire.

I haven't said it wasn't a crap game. Even as a Wigan fan the poor quality was clear - but when the you're only 10 points ahead until the 79th minute in a final it's still tense.
By the way, in 2012 Warrington scored 29 of their 35 points when it wasn't raining.

So presumably some mystical force reduced all the players' skill levels just prior to kick-off? Or perhaps they forgot their job is to entertain neutrals rather than play for the win, which also means playing to the conditions?

Dunno.

| Quote ="JEAN CAPDOUZE"If the French powerhouse club Catalans Dragons had had their best team, or even close to their best team, available for their quarter final against Hull FC, they probably would have been playing at Wembley today in place of the Clueless Losers. The Catalans, with Dureau, Bosc, Webb, Casty, Pelissier, Fakir and Duport in form, would have given it to the Wigan team in attack, and made it an interesting game with an international flavour.
Instead we were served up this disgraceful tedium, punctuated by schoolboy errors, where the stand off for Hull drops the ball twice in crucial moments, and the only attacking flair comes from the novice full back and the replacement hooker. Hull FC is not a team that is ready for the Big Time, it is not a team good enough for Finals competition. It is merely a fitting symbol of the parlous state of rugby league in England under the management of Nigel Wood.'"

I say it again, Double standards from wigan fans, they scorn at leeds grand final wins and bemoan the playoffs blah blah, yet they're gonna come on here and squawk about beating leigh, london, widnes hull kr and a 10th rate hull team?
'"
They're were all superleague teams the last time I checked?.. With the exception of leigh of course. Not our fault the standard is so low. There was no arguements in 2011 when we beat saints wire and leeds to win the trophy..
The game was crap yesterday, Off course it was, But I genuinely didn't expect anything different, it's typical of Rugby League fans to just do nothing but moan about the sport that they "love".
Hull were absolutely dire and Wigan just went through the motions and did what they needed to do.
There was about 20 minutes of torrential rain last year btw and then the sun came back out... absolutely nothing like the game yesterday.
