| Quote ="Big Jim Slade"All this bitterness. I'm perplexed by the sheer number of people who seemingly can't comprehend what it is that Sinfield does and why he's so highly rated by other players and coaches who really understand the game. For years now Sinfield has been far and away the best leader in English rugby - both as a captain and in terms of leading the team around, he's the best kicker in English rugby - both in general play and conversions, his reading of the game is bettered by very few, and he's one of the few players in this country who can really control a game. Plenty claim he's average, but by every single definition of the word he is not. He's exceptional as are his achievements.
Why is there such a struggle to understand that leading a team round the park for 80 minutes of every game - as Sinfield does - is actually far more important than being a sublime broken field runner like Barba or Tomkins. Why is having a bit of everything as well as exceptional leadership and kicking not seen as being as good as being fast and elusive? This isn't about being the most entertaining player, it's about being the best player and to argue that Sinfield is unworthy of that accolade but Barba is? That's farcical. Would I pay the entrance fee just to watch Sinfield as I would for Slater, Barba or Tomkins? Probably not, but he'd be the first name down on my team sheet every single time because game after game and year after year he has been the difference. His highlights reel might not be as fancy, but few trophy cabinets can compare and he does it all with grace, grit and good sportsmanship.
If he was at Wigan or Warrington they'd be champions, he's also the reason they are not.
None of this is to say that others wouldn't be deserving of the award, but to suggest that Sinfield is undeserving? To me that shows bitterness and a complete ignorance of what he does.'"
. It's the likes of Sinfield who's 80 minutes of manoeuvring give the likes of Tomkins & Barba the opportunity to showcase their talent.
Great accolade for a hugely underrated player. Well done Kevin Sinfield.

| Think it should have gone to Cam Smith.
But still, congratulations to Sinfield. Really great player and a model pro.

| Quote ="king warrior"Listen i can name 10 players from over here who would be before this clown
How is it good for our game?
Will it make the game more competitive? NO
Will fans think 'oh that Sinfield the best player in the world is playing lets go watch him? NO
You get around 5 good decent close games over here a season you get the same over there in bad games'"
Should be called keyboard Worrior!!
Why is he a clown? Because he has been given an award by OTHERS who though he deserved it?
I am really chuffed for him winning the award. I would have been chuffed if Sam had picked up the award as well. It sums up the problems with not getting behind the England team when fans cannot put petty club rivalry aside to say well done.
You also mention the boring disciplined games in the playoffs that Leeds won with, and then praise the NRL which is full of teams playing disciplined "boring" rugby.
I am sure kev will be sad that his award hasn't been given the seal of approval from a keyboard worrior covered in pie juice and crumbs

| Great news! a well deserved award to a player that would walk into the starting line up of any side in the world (as captain) & would improve them all. The only thing he did not do in 2012 was lead his country to victory against the kangaroos or kiwis, but as they could not be bothered to play it can hardly be held against him. Let the Aussies winge all they want! I assume that some Aussies must have voted for him?

| i suppose it all depends on what the award was judged on,i dont think he is the most skillfull player in the world, but as captain of leeds he has made them into winners now for a few years, coming from 5th twice to win the grand final, captaining a rl team is as much in the head as it is using the hands/feet.
they dont usually hand out these awards to anybody , so he must have deserved it

| The thing is the Aussie vote is inevitably going to be more split than the British one, which will lead to this thing happening now and again, and I'm sure it's designed for that to happen, as the RLIF wanted to take the Golden Boot on board as theirs, but they wanted to change the way that it was voted for, but Harry Edgar in partucular and RLW wouldn't budge, so the RLIF set up their own award in 2008. Cam Smith won that one this year by the way.

| Sinfield is an outstanding captain, great leader, excellent goal kicker and a good solid player. But best player in the world from Jan-Dec 2012? No way. This is a 'lifetime achievement' type of award, given for his success over the years - and before the hordes descend from Headingley, let me say he absolutely deserves it.
But in 2012 Leeds lost 11 regular season fixtures and the CC final. The whole campaign was pretty average for the most and Sinfield started to cement his reputation as a moaner (yes, I'm fully aware other players moan to refs as well - doesn't make Sinfield any less guilty). They were embarrassed at home against Wigan, barely showed up in the CC final and only an epic effort and run of form in the last 3 games of the year saw them crowned champions. Let's not forget, they were spanked against Huddersfield before the play-offs and Wakefield, for all their form, are not a play-off team.
That's to take nothing away from the game at Catalans - one of the toughest and hardest wins I've ever seen, the epic against Wigan, and the outstanding form to stifle Warrington at OT. They turned it on when it mattered and according to the rules, that's what matters. And King Kev led the way.
Well done Kev, not the best player in the world but deserving of the award nonetheless.

| Quote ="Big Jim Slade"Which is all well and good, but I'd argue that Sinfield's greatest asset is the fact that when he controls the game it's entirely down to the opposition and whether they can provide that moment of individual skill to turn the game Leeds are dominating on it's head. Mission Impossible is much more exciting, but Citizen Kane is an infinitely superior film.'"
Excellent analogy - I agree fully Barba is clearly a more exciting player but that's not what the award is for.
In his later years Lockyer was rarely what I would consider an exciting player but he was staggeringly consistent in dominating and controlling matches and he's simply the best player I've ever seen.

If that was the case, then we would have a lot more than 4 british winners over it's 20 odd year run.

| I don't know whether everyone has seen [url=http://m.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/nrl/barbas-boot-is-pinched-by-pom/story-e6frexnr-1226547869584this article[/url but its arrogant and patronising tone was enough to instantly convert me to a Sinfield for Golden Boot supporter and vote 'yes' on the poll, following on from Tony Hannan's campaign on Twitter today to get the Pom support up!
Sinfield had a fantastic 2012 season and since the Golden Boot is about impact of the season rather than being a world class player, I think he's a worthy winner.

| Usual Aussie rantings, "we can't have our own way, so we're going to sulk". They see it as "a snub" to their players because one of them didn't win it. Has anyone told them that they don't have a God given right to win it every year. Their arrogance knows no bounds.

You can get a government grant to assist you in overcoming most problems similar to yours .
The best player in the world is exactly what it says on the tin , and it is voted for by people who in general have half an idea what they are talking about .
If you pay attention you will see the title IS NOT 'Best player wearing a particular number on his shirt or playing any chosen position' .
The world 13 was chosen by people deciding who was the best individual in each position on the field . Each of those chosen have been judged to be the best at doing a specific job in a specified position . It does not mean that any of the chosen 13 are by any means the best player in the world . It just means that they are considered to be the best in a given position .
Are you understanding what I am trying to say , or shall I repeat myself but shuffle the words again ?
The 'best player in the world' may not be the best in any given position . For example . Ryan Hall is recognised by many people as the worlds best winger . That does not mean he is in with a shout of the golden boot . It just means he is good on the wing .
I believe that Mr Sinfield has been awarded the title for having been the best team captain ( note this is not a specific shirt number or field position ) and ( as many people have already posted) most influential leader of men out on the field of play in 2012 .
Hope that clears things up for the unsure/unwashed/overfed/uneducated .
By the way . As so many people have posted that Kevin has been the most influential team player in the world (but not 'the best' ) are any of them prepared to man up and admit that he should have been awarded the MOS ?
Rant over
BR

You could quite easily apply that to the Goons as well! I suspect all the unsavoury characters we shipped over there were from a small town in Greater Manchester.
