| If money were no object, and we are allowed a space/plinth big enough, I'd think big, I'd go with 13 players lined up as in a cup final team photo, front row of 6 down on one knee, back row of 7 standing, with the players having their arms accross each others shoulders. Then we could pick players from across the whole history of the game at wembley and show them standing side by side with the trophy in front of them.
With the plinth probably being massive we could use it to write the team winners and lance todd trophy winners for each final on it in an NHL stanley cup style, which could then be added to each year in a PR style.
(everyone would be happy with at least one player then!)

| As I said before Don Fox is THE RL image or Wembley. In fact, aside from 1966 and the white horse FA cup final I would say it is THE image of Wembley.
Edwards to me was the most consistently very good player ever but not a great player like some of the players who used to thrash the Aussies in the 50s and early 60s.
Aside from Don Fox, I would say Karalius and Murphy (plus nmaybe Van Vollenhoven) would be great images. Never has a man looked more like what one would imagine an RL player to look like than Vince. He played the game very tough but fair and wan't too bad with his hands. He was Murphy's protector and, of course, Alex was the one of the greatest British RL players ever.
Someone mentioned respect by Australians in the context of one suggestion - Reilly I think. Vince was feared and respected. Nurphy too in a different way. Good player that Mal Reilly was, having seen both him and Vince play the game, Mal was simply nowhere near the class of Vince. Sorry Mal!
Neil Fox is a good nominee - great plyer. Maybe allied to Don if it could be done in a way that worked. I think Karalius and Murhpy could be done in a way that works - in action.
Having said all that, the easy and good image would be a smiling captain lifting the iconic challenge cup. Now which skipper? Vince for Widnes? Murphy for Leigh? Featherstone?

| These won't be popular choices perhaps but deserve some consideration:
John Kear dancing on the touchline - was certainly an iconic scene, both with Sheffield and Hull.
Leroy Rivett's four try celebration - can't think of another player whose career was defined by a CC final performance.

| Finals come & go, however, The Water-splash final will always be remembered above all, by fans of all clubs.
The drama & despair in that last passage of play, encapsulates everything about the game.
I’m afraid it’s got to be Don.

It's an iconic moment of our game. It's right up there with Football's 'They think it's all over''.

| I think you would need to take into consideration the feelings of the Fox family on this one. Why would anyone want a statue of their loved one depicting emotionally his lowest point in his professional career?
The statue should show emotions of delight. It should depict victory not despair. It's not a war memorial!

| Don Fox was only kicking in that final because Neil Fox was injured, apart from being brothers that's the other link between an iconic player and THE iconic moment.

| An "Iwo Jima" style cast of this moment.
I actually like the "Pain & Glory" idea of Offiah / Fox back to back.
Neil Fox is a legend, but he's not synonymous with Wembley. His brother is.

| Ryan Giggs. Swinton RL professional, represented his country at International level at Rugby League, then went on to win more Wem-ber-ley medals than you can shake a stick at at a football club, is a FAR more well known name than all previously mentioned.
Winner.

I know fully well who he played for. I was just marvelling at the hypocrisy of the original statement. "Put aside your club biases, the real choice is the player from my club!"
He'd be a great choice but the statement was stupid.

| If the '66 World Cup was held in another country, with Bobby Moore captaining a victorious England team, there'd still be a statue of him outside Wembley.
Neil Fox is certainly deserving of a statue, but it'd be more fitting at Belle Vue surely? (Yes, I know he played for other clubs too).
The statue, IMO, should be of someone that fans of every club feel some sort of affinity with, someone who has achieved the highest acolade in the sport - captaining your country to a Wolrd Cup victory, for instance.
