| Not necessarily, standards rise and fall, tactics change and adapt. There's certainly 3 or 4 teams you'd hold up over the SL era and say they were truly great that year for different reasons. Wigan last year didnt play with the flair of Leeds 04 or saints 06 but they were equally as effective. As more British players are introduced to SL in place of Aussies (yes it is happening) I feel standards accross the board are dropping a tad but in time hopefully we'll have a better British product.
Besides, under a SL capped system its impossible to have a truly world superstar team, if thats standards dropping thennn oh well

I think there are a few exceptions to that. Just because we don't play with the flair of Saints and Leeds of those years does not mean our standards are less. I think we would beat those teams with out current team because our current team is all about stopping that kind of momentum and controlling the game.
Cas currently have loads of young players in the team who I have never seen before and they look just as good if not better as players gone before them.
We have Tomkins who replaced Smith..... far better player.
Liam Farrell replacing Bailey and he is far better.
Prescott and Mossop are better players than Feka.
Our standards have risen through youth, and yes we have brought in 2 top quality aussies but we are still playing the young players as well.

| If learning how to control the ruck effectively while your defence lines up, in a way that does NOT break any rules of the game, means that teams in our comp are playing with less 'flair', then so be it, because maybe, possibly, that attitude might just get in to the England/GB setup.

Updated with today's crowd vs Quins of 12,354 - predicted end of season average now 13,991.

Not a bad gate for the Quins visit and a win so that helps the momentum – with that in mind, I think your estimates for Hudds and Saints at 13k are probably a little under and the Bulls could average over 14,000 for the year which would be a great result (although, I think 19/20k for Leeds is probably more likely than 23k but I hope I’m wrong)

| Big promotional push for the Leeds game. Never expected us to get 24k in 99 but we did. These things can gather momentum.

| There may quite a few who watch it on the box.
Sky hope so.
They don't care how many go through the gate as they don't get anything from that.

of course they care about crowds, the sky presentation on the TV always looks better from a packed stadium!

| maybe the success of the bulls will encourage other clubs to push dsccounted memberships more
when people know it will be packed every week it will encourage more crowds despite poor form
wigan should do something similar and fill outthe jjb
hudds tried and werent as succcesful maybe another push would help

The difference with Hudds was that the deal was seen as a giveaway by the wealthy owner, and indeed the marketing of it did little to challenge that . At Bulls, there is no wealthy owner, and it was rightly seen as vital fanbase involvement to help secure the club's future. Plus the Bulls were targetting a large lapsed and disillusioned fanbase, whereas Hudds were and are a club on the rise now they are amply funded, and you would expect the fanbase to be motivated and increasing anyway as a result of that?

| Hudds' effort seems to have been quietly forgotten about, despite being the biggest announcement in the club's history. [url=http://viewtopic.php?f=26&t=490307Going to find out what happened there now[/url.

| Well, we've taken our crowds up from 3,400 to this season around 8,200, so why wasn't that a success?

think ken davy said it cost him too much money to continue it
things like this need to be for 5 years or so to really work ...not just one year ...
over a long period of time it builds up a regular base and then they can increase prices
the bulls have done it correctly ....hudds looked for quick growth rather than something more sustainable
their ground with 8000 in it looks poor ...id be doing everything i could to get their crowds to 15,000, which is what the galpharm needs to get a good atmos and look good on tv

If Leeds were on fire maybe the Bulls fans wouldn't want to turn up for a possible flogging but Leeds are hardly in good form so I think a good gate will turn up to see if the Bulls can get on top in the derby

Performance doesn't matter as much when it comes to the derby games though.
We are not playing as well as last season and yet there is only 80 tickets left in one stand and just over 500 in another... it should sell-out by monday/tuesday.

More likely to average 13 than 14k now. Duff form of each side prob didn't help. That's my excuse for being 4k out in any case.

Suspect the rest of my estimates might prove a little optimistic, seeing as the .rse appears to have fallen out of our season.

| 14,134. Averaging just under 15k though that will drop off as we've had Leeds, Wigan and Wire already, and only have the two Hull clubs likely to get near that left.
