| Widnes v Barrow in the Northern Rail Cup today drew the same crowd as Salford's home game in Super League. Go figure RFL...

| Anyone know the Odal crowd today? I remember being lectured on this board five or six years ago by a Bulls fan who instructed me that the fine Odal crowds of the period were attributable to the club 'doing things differently' - nowt to do with winning SL regularly - and that even a downturn in form would not dent the crowd numbers. Well, now we'll see. I'm genuinely sorry if Bulls go into decline as they epitomised the way SL needed to be embraced, never breached the salary cap, and generally set a fine example. But the old adage about success atttracting support remains as true for Bradford as for any club.

| might be a good idea for quins to ask the rfl to schedule them away next season when the 6 nations is on or a different day to when england play, hardly going to attract new fans to the stoop when they can stay home and watch teh rahrahs

As someone else has said Quins are not far behind 'heartland' club Salford on gates.

| Salford need to do something very quickly to change their attendances.
Even the most critical RL fan can see the massive improvement of the Wakefield franchise since the last round of application preparation, Salford IMO need to make a similar case.
I honestly think the development of the "Wakefield brand" especially over the last 3 years is one of SL's great success stories. Year on year JK and the board have built upon previous success in a controlled and economically viable way.
When JK took over we we're in a bad way, on the brink of relegation, with a team of older, mainly foreign players who we're failing to meet their potential and SL's required level of quality.
Now we have a community department that leads the way in SL, arguably one of the best youth systems in the country and a team that's getting progressively better year, on year.
With the new stadium i truly believe we will witness the awakening of the biggest "sleeping giant" in RL.
Until then we need to keep up the hard work and keep our feet on the ground. But I don't think anyone can deny the Drednaughts a drink this evening.

I doubt that many will turn up for Bulls vs Castleford next week. The air of optimism that was around Odsal today was pretty much trashed by half time.

I agree that Wakey and Cas could both 'do a warrington' with a new stadium.

Crowd and status wise yes, I can see that.
In terms of form.. While we still have JK in charge "Not on my nelly!"
In all seriousness, thanks, it's good that RL is starting to notice WT for the right reasons!

10,000 is a very good crowd base for a club in a poor stadium
in a new ground they could even push for 20,000.

They caught up about ten years ago if that is what you mean. In france been decades since RL was pulling decent crowds at any level. NZ outside the NRL has very poor figures. That leaves only Australia where it is the clear winner at domestic level. Everywhere else it comes off second best unless you coun t PNG.

the less we say about RU in france the better.
sports that need to cheat to survive are quite pathetic really.
lets not get too distracted in a failing sport.
lets just celebrate how well RL is doing.
crowds like the hull clubs get really symbolize how league has always been a game where its clubs have strong roots in the community
heck even cas and wakey in new grounds will go well over 10,000 as well.

RU, a failing sport ? Only in Australia. Here in England, the Guinness Premiership continue to grow their attendances. Albeit on the back of a high profile International scene.
Celebrate how well RL is doing? Yet again, you're lucky, you live in a country where RL is king; here in England it falls a long way behind soccer, even in Wigan, Leeds and Hull, the soccer teams get much higher attendances.
RL will never compete with soccer in this country, and if it wants to compete with RU, then it needs a vibrant International fixture list .

Tragic, but I cannot help but come to the same conclusion, although I think it links in with media dominance and an established mindset as well. After getting in last night in a celebratory mood after Wakey beating Leeds and watching Sky Sports News on loop whilst awaiting Offiah's (ahem) 'analysis', I saw no evidence of anything that actually made a spectator sport from the rah-rah reports. The majority of the domestic games seemed to offer little more than a try a side, yet produced inflated scores from kickfests borne out of various technicial infringements by cumbersome so-called-athletes. The international games seemed little better. The crowd at the Leeds Tykes match seemed pitiful, yet the match (which included one whole try) warranted an interview with both coaches (repeated twice in half an hour), who appeared to have the audacity to imply it was the shocking pitch that was at fault.
