| Dally, I do hope you aren't comparing the value of a TV viewer sat on their lard (I know lots of Aussies ) and paying zero for the privelege of watching a game, to that of a paying spectator at an AFL game?
Bottom line is that in terms of REVENUE, AFL gets more both via TV rights (which is truly poor negotiating by the ARL) and vastly more from spectators.
And whilst in Sydney there may be only one AFL team vs several league teams, here in south-east Queensland we'll soon have 2 league teams and 2 AFL teams in what is supposedly a heartland of league. Compare that to Melbourne, where we have the Storm, who get crowds the AFL can - and does - laugh at and SA and WA where league has zero presence. Any neutral would have to suggest that on "any count" except for non-paying TV viewers AFL is by far the bigger sport, and more worryingly, a growing one too.
One of the few ways in which league can expand here is by dumping a couple of Sydney teams which frankly wouldn't be missed and replacing them with teams in SA/WA or the central coast. Another way in which league COULD become a much bigger sport is internationally, were games to be more competitive on a regular basis.
Every year around Origin time diehard league fans jump up and down and beat their chests because Origin is great. It is. Agree 100%. But its a rather pathetic add-on to a domestic season to have 3 high-profile games, when the potential is there for much much more. An international scene even 20% as big as Union would be a money-spinner far, far greater than Origin. Which, again lets be honest, no-one outside of NSW/Qld gives a toss about.

Its refreshing that others can see the bigger picture.
Complacency will see RL in Aus diminish. If you are so wrapped up in local competition the world will overtake and engulf you.
I find soccer boring, but it is the worlds biggest sport. Parents in America and Aus are waking up to the fact that their offspring do not need to be six foot four and as wide as a barn door to enjoy sport.

1 game of state of origin in queensland has more TV viewers than an entire season of the Brisbane Lions AFL team in the same state.
when news ltd exits RL we will get a TV deal which dwarfs AFLs.
its that simple. with things like origins, tests and internationals to offer TV companies, AFL will get blitzed.
im a patient person, ive seen where we were in 95 before SL killed off a decade.
AFL is expanding in queensland and there is no desire for a gold coast team.

You throw up more distractions than a politician trying the explain their expenses.
You know full well what the original thread was about.
I have demonstrated that you are not the best in the world.
That honour falls to New Zealand who had what it takes to win when it counts.
And before you use the England are cr*p ploy, it was a worthless competition ploy, the "it was a lucky one off" ploy or the "what do you know" ploy, save your breath.
The Australian press, Australian pundits and the Australian team were embarrassed big time.
I am sure that the Aus team will do all in their power to redress the balance next time, but until then they are not world champs.
As gutterfax said "you could pick a fight in an empty room".
I am sure you will continue to post nonsense on this thread in the vain attempt at getting the last word.
