I was replying to this post by Dave T from Warrington
Quote Surely each team has their own marketing team, and community workers who have this in their remit? '"
So a ' team ' meaning more than one person , any less than 3 is a waste in my opinion , and this on top of F/T community staff otherwise they aren't doing their job properly
If that is not the case , what do York actually have ?

So you managed to attract a very good attendance at a TV game , most coming in on free tickets to watch their kids doing the pre and half time entertainment ?
Your ' commercial ' ie ' Commercial manager , not marketing team has managed to get part of the stadium sponsored and a bar that hopefully will bring in extra monies
Excellent , well done to all involved
Still not what Dave T or I was talking about
What sort of attendance are you expecting next week against Worky ?
What ' marketing ' is taking place in York this week to bring more fans in ?
Has your BOD spoke to Workingtons BOD to discuss what you and they can do to encourage more of their fans to attend the match ?
Have you got all the data from everybody that attended the TV game and have they been contacted since to encourage them to attend this week
If you have that data what mode of communication are your club using to inform them of upcoming games and any special offers you are offering in the future ?
What are your club intending to do differently to the TV game to bring in other people who didn't attend that game ?
What sort of Marketing ' budget ' do the people you do have , that can be spent on Marketing , is that money set at the start of the season before any playing budget is sorted ?
This is not a criticism of York , it is just what every club should be doing
Not just when on the TV but every week , all the time , ongoing

Well i can tell you for a fact that when Widnes played Salford in front of the Sky camera's we set a new record attendance for the national leagues and all it took was for the club to sell tickets at half price to the parents of the kids that were involved in the 'Vikings Community Choir'.

| wigans idea of advertising the leeds game as the big one seems to be reaping the rewards- a 20k plus crowd is expected with currently over 15,000 tickets been sold for the game. tickets are priced at 10 quid and 5 quid for both sets of fans. and if you are a wigan season ticket holder and you buy a ticket you get yourself a free big 1 t shirt.

Out of these ones 'who wouldn't normally go' most used to go the matches but they stopped going either through the club being relegated or cos a lot of fans had had enough when we had stephen vaughn as owner and they needed to realise that the club had changed and quite a few of these now go the matches.

| yes and no. In ideal world yes but are cubs going to spend 160k+ on a marketing team? Probably not. Every SL club should have to have an indicative budget imo that shows how much they will spend on marketing, jnr development, 1st team salary, coaching salaries etc. i would be happy to see the RFL set a % expectation on this.

Dave T wrote
Surely each team has their own marketing team, and community workers who have this in their remit?
What next, is it going to be the RFL's job to sort out the pre-match entertainment?
The clubs between them have a hell of a lot more resources than the RFL, so why should this fall under the RFL?
This season we have seen initiatives like free Challenge Cup tickets, half priced Magic Weekend tickets for ST holders, over the past few years we have seen the emergence of home and away kids Season Tickets.
Do the FA or the RFU get involved with increasing their individual club's crowds?
The RFL do not necessarily have the local expertise to draw in the crowds in my local town (Warrington) for example. This is 100% the responsibility of the individual clubs. Of course if there is anything the RFL can support or help, then they should (see the above examples). '"
Given the poor relatively speaking attendances at many of our clubs I would have thought that either the RFL demand the clubs do more and have people specificaly at clubs doing this job or they do more themselves
