Strangely enough, no. It is up to the people that own and/or run the places.

On a point of order, how many trains go direct from Bradford to Wakefield without stopping at Leeds ?
Answer : None
Trains from Leeds to Wakey and Leeds to Bradford both go out from the same general direction at Leeds station, hence the need for a train to pull in and reverse out going in the same general direction if it came directly from Bradford and then intended to go to Wakefield, Cas etc.

The problem is that the last trains back home from Edinburgh leave at 8pm ... I'd have stayed for the last game, but I'd have missed the train.
Loads of fans left after the Leeds match for broadly the same reason.

| just got back from edinburgh. overall enjoyed the weekend and would go again next year, but did leave feeling a little underwhelmed. for me the set up of the event could be much better. the trick is to generate an atmosphere for each game...i was sat right between the warrington and hkr fans for their game and the atmosphere was really good. unfortunately by then 2 stands were empty cos everyone had moved to sit in the sun so cant imagine it came across well on tv.
1. derbys are a must for me. as much as i love this sport its very hard for me to get excited by warrington hull kr, or quins v salford, compared to wigan saints or the hull derby.
2. i feel the games should have greater importance to attract more fans. someone has mentioned double points. this could be a good idea imo.
3. only sell tickets for the east and west stands. i'd rather see 30000-40000 fans condensed into 2 stands than spread around 4. and lets face it the attendance for the past 3 years shows that 30000 is the average. its not suddenly gonna sell out next year. the atmosphere was rubbish for most of the games.
4. in the two empty stands construct some platforms using scaffolding or something and put on some special features. e.g. at murrayfield there are 4 tiers in the north and south stands (2 tiers each stand). in one tier there could be a kids section with slides etc. another tier could contain a history of rugby league display particularly for the scots to see. another tier could have some big screens showing videos of great tries or great super league matches etc. the last tier should be a meet the players stand with the teams not playing that day being present. this would encourage more people to stick within the stadium.
5. fancy dress should be encouraged with prizes for the best costumes.
6. get some car company to be a sponsor for the magic weekend and get them to provide a car to be won in a raffle. £1 from every persons ticket could be for the raffle ticket. the winner could be announced at half time during the last game with the stipulation being that they must be in the ground at the time of announcement in order to win or another person will be selected. again this encourages people to stay within the ground.
got more ideas but too tired to type anymore!

| Return of the derbies would be nice. Maybe a bit of a rejig so there are some different derbies, and making the non-derbies good games:
Day 1:
Celtic vs Harlequins
Huddersfield vs Bradford
Hull FC vs Hull KR
Day 2:
Catalans vs Salford
Wakefield vs Castleford
Warrington vs Wigan
Saints vs Leeds

| Not going to read all 8 pages, but IMO.
They need something in or around the city centre to advertise the event. They have the Scottish tourist board on side, use them
The Park and Ride need to be more organised, even have Double Decker buses. Can’t be difficult to talk to the bus company and arrange it. The person at the P & R organised it himself. Though someone working for a bus company or the RFL to organise something, difficult one.
The kids zone need to be open longer, by the end of Sunday my two just wanted to go home. Not saying have it open all the time, but to close it at the end of the 1st game does not work.
Not sure which I like more, the stadium location in Cardiff is great. Though having the space round Murrayfield with the fans getting together worked well.
As for the weather, my family are from Argyll, I thought it was quite warm.

| Double points as someone stated is a non starter. Firstly what makes this game more important than any other league game? and secondly a lot of people who are against the idea its on the basis that it makes the league lop sided with the extra fixture, if you give more points for the game that just emphasises that lop sidedness more.

| Pubs and restaurants were spread out so you had the Grassmarket area near the Castle about 3 miles away from the stadium and the Haymarket area where we were staying around a mile away. As well as other pubs spread out in other directions.
This meant fans were split up instead of all joining in around the centre like Cardiff. Those distances also meant you were stuck at the stadium once you were there and had no option but pay well over the odds.
The stadium facilities are behind a lot of SL teams stadiums.
A lot of teams fans aren't fully behind the event, possibly due to them going finals regular, for Warrington it's like a cup final event.
Edinburgh is a lovely city and lively but we found a bakery that opened later than the pubs, they all closed at 1am.
Overall I enjoyed myself but I think the 2 events at Cardiff were much better.

| Quote ="N13M"We had a great weekend, but that's because of the good company and result.
Pluses:- it was different and I'd never been to Murrayfield before. We were allowed to take food and drink inside unlike Cardiff where bags were searched and items not allowed were confiscated. It was played in the open, not with a closed roof.
Minuses:-Facilities were not as modern as the Millennium Stadium. Half an hours walk away from the centre and just a normal Saturday/Sunday bus service, so those who have restricted mobility were scuppered. Accommodation just as expensive as Cardiff.
At the moment I wouldn't go again to Murrayfield, but my views might change towards the end of the year. Oh yes and nursing sun burned face and neck, although when the sun went it was ruddy freezing.
BTW thought the Wigan fans were by far the noisiest this year. Whatever happened to the Wire fans? They are usually very vociferous.'"
Now we thought the accom was much better priced? We got a 4* B&B inc a monster breakfast for £65 per night (for 2 not each)

If it was pubs then thats right surely? I've never seen kids allowed in a pub after 7 anywhere apart from holiday camps and I don't think they should be. If you were stopped from going in restraunts then it would be a bit crappy.

I reckon the following may be an improvement on that:
Day 1:
Hull FC vs Hull KR - stadium packed for 1st match. Some proportion will stay for Celyic/Quins and many will be in for Bradford/Leeds
Celtic vs Harlequins - sandwiched between two big attendances is its best chance for a crowd.
Bradford vs Leeds - an essential game for the Magic weekend.
Huddersfield vs Catalans - will benefit from overstayers from the days earlier derbies.
Day 2:
Warrington vs Salford - A grrudge game, and will benefit from early-comers for the don't miss Saints Wigan clash
Saints vs Wigan -another essential game for the Magic weekend.
Wakefield vs Castleford - will benefit from overstayers from the days earlier derbies.

Perhaps you weren't looking in the right places ??? Saw plenty of families out and about. Had a cracking time and will be returning next year, also saw lots af all girl parties having a grand old time. Never saw the slightest hint of trouble and thought the natives and all fellow rugby supporters were very, very friendly. I spoke with a fair few of the bar owners and they were pleasantly surprised over the fact that you could get supporters of 14 different different clubs together and witness them all singing, laughing and drinking together and not a hint of bother anywhere.

| Judging by the comments on here you would think that 50% of attendees would like the RFL as its main criteria for decision making on venues be determined by the Local pubs
now not wanting to get into a debate about alcohol ( as most beer in pubs is just p!ss. they would be better holding it in Cockermouth then at least you can drink Jennings) there has to be more to it than that.
For me the three main aims of the MM should be
1 to promote expansion to new fans or developing the game in an area
2 Publicity
3 a great day out particularly for genuine fans and families
In terms of no 1 i am not sure Scotland is the best place to go as i feel that we are a long way off a Scottish team although this may kick start some interest. Does wales need it i am not sure if that is as important as Celtic winning a few games.
in terms of two holding it anywhere in the Uk will probaly get publicity.
therefore no 3 becomes really important. Rl has enough events where people can go out and get tanked up internationals, CC and GF. But there are very few places where familiies and friends, fans from other teams can really meet up for a good time. that is why MM is the best forunm for that. genuine fans not idiots or glory hunters who turn up to watch a final.
I did not think Cardiff had much for kids. Edinburgh had some more but needs to work harder next year. I went out to the fans bit afyter the Giants game and it was all closing down. My little ones would enjoy the day out but could not wqatch 4 games so i did not bring them . If there was more for the kids at the venue i am sure it would improve the event no matter where it was held.
despite that i really enjoyed it and will be back next year. It is far better then ANY CC ( except 2006) or GF i have attended and i would always prioritise MM above any of them.

The toilets are terrible considering it's a stadium of that size and the money that must have been put in, also no proper concourses so the beer tents and food stands on the grass would have got washed out had it rained.

All you had to do was walk around the stadium, as it is built on a hill part of it has no concourse but the majority does, has no issues with the loos, a bit of a queue for the ladies but isn't there always in stadiums? Plenty of paper, soap and towels and cleaned often, way better than the majority of RL stadiums.

I wonder if this was actually one of Murrayfield's plus points from the RFL's POV - greater proportion of beer bought from the ground's own bars than in Cardiff where you could sneak in and out to nearby pubs.

Would the RFL have been on a percentage of the bar take? I'd be surprised if they were, I'd have thought the stadium management would have wanted to keep that for themselves.

Stadium management get a fee from the sale of the franchises (via tender) to the caterers, profit share should be between the event promoter and the caterer.
