I don't think he has an axe to grind with Salford as such. But the feeling was that at that time, certainly amongst Widnes fans is that we should have been given the nod.

Why should widnes have got the nod? There must of been a valid reason they weren't given a franchise? Wasn't it because you hadn't won a trophy before the licence period?

Not sure that criteria was part of the process at that time. It was soon after Steve O'Connor took over as Chairman from that crook Vaughan and we were plainly in a position to go into Superleague but the powers that be deemed that it was too soon after being in administration for us to go into SL.

O'Connor was obviously a different animal totally from the previous chairman and had offered cast iron guarantees and a £500k bond to ensure security but that still wasn't good enough. We were absolutely financially solvent but they decided against us.

We had a stronger championship team at that time and could arguably have made a better on field impact in our first season rather than qualifying via the NRC and then bumbling on for almost two seasons with a decidedly average team (why spend on a good team when we'd already secured 'promotion') and then having to find more quality players than we had 2 years previously.

You've answered the question mate, you went into admin and the rules were you cant be considered for a franchise if your club had been in admin at any one time in the previous 3 year period.

Pretty much. What we were bothered by though was that we had been taken into admin by a crook and the new owner was a totally trustworthy, solvent businessman of some repute who had offered assurances and half a million of his own cash to back that up.

We were a totally different club to the one that went into admin..........I know rules are rules but the RFL make them up as they go along so why shouldn't we!!!!

Hang on, weren't you opening this thread by saying it was a disgrace said "traditional" clubs don't get a shout because of protected teams like London, now you're complaining that teams aren't protected and these traditional (now "pit village"icon_wink.gif clubs are the reason?

At the moment LB are doing a good job of not wanting to be part of SL both on and off the pitch. I can say that since I am one of few nutters who travel a 140 mile round trip to home games to see us get stuffed most weeks.

you know who i was talking about the likes of batley dewsbury fev there are 2 teams left in the championship that could make a fist of it if they get their hands on some cash the rest are just deluding themselfs about P&R they dont relly want it all they want is some cash so their chairman does not have to stump up his and it is allright for fans of the top funded teams to vote for option 3 as they know they will never be in the relegated 4 it will take just 2 seasons if this is implemented before the yoyo teams will be cast adrift AGAIN

You can't just pick and choose who you want to listen to. It's incredibly hypocritical!

Basically, you want to shut out the small clubs to protect the big clubs, but you don't want to offer that same protection to the expansion clubs. Can you see why people may think you've got a hidden agenda here?!

in my view the only way to make the sport florish is to have a sl of 16 teams with feeder teams below that the expansion teams can then play in thatcomp to nurture the support and given say 5 years notice that they are to enter sl that is how the australia do it the feeder teams get full time players from the parent club at no cost to them the parent club get their frindge and youth players playing against better players than they do now I know it is harsh but we have to face facts that rl below sl is not dying it is dead and no matter how much money (as that is all plan3 is there for) it will not come back to life and before you say it I was saying the same thing before widnes got back up
