I can read and I did not read it in the source cited, the Sydney Morning Herald. It is not in the SMH, and only a psychotic would have thought that such information was to be found in the SMH I cited.
You might have got your information about his planned coaching role from an article on the Catalans website, which I only read long after my original post.

Bird is likely a replacement for Glenn Stewart, in the second row. His recruitment will hopefully encourage his former Titans team mate David Taylor to stay in Perpignan. That would be a powerful forward combination.
Though Glenn Stewart is a very good player, Gregory Bird is probably better. He will likely lift the team by his aggressive on field example.
Catalans needs to sort out the five eighth position though. IMO, Lucas Albert needs another year in the U-19s to develop his talent.

He is (was?) a top class player. Still gutted his misdemeanours kept the Bulls from signing him back when we weren't a shambles.
Although personally I wouldn't use him as Stewart's replacement. I'd be playing him at 13 and letting him get as many touches of the ball as possible.

Trent Barrett was not as influential as even Gregory Bird was in 2009. That is because in his first stint at Catalans Captain Gregory Bird lifted the club from the depths it had sunk under coach Kevin Walters to playoff contenders. He was a charismatic inspirational leader. I foresee more such success in Gregory' second coming. |

Todd Carney has been proven physically and mentally brittle. Plus he is not successful with women. That is not the case with Gregory Bird. There is no comparison. Gregory is a tough hombre. And he comes well equipped with the former Becca Rochow. Look out for a rejuvenated Catalans team in 2017. |

He didn't appear that successful with Katie Milligan or Lara Bingle.
One misdemeanour to many after the recent Brunswick Heads incident.
Was probably time for GCT to ship him out. |

Every year Jean you make an announcement regarding the player that's going to make Catalans the champions that year. As of yet it hasn't materialised. Catalans have a deep routed culture issue that they need to address. One player isn't the answer nor is a team full of washed up second rate Aussies.
