| Read so much crap on here last few seasons about Championship defences - 30-38 scorelines reflecting the gashness of that league and its defensive failures. This years' SL scorelines so far in that respect are embarrassing. So, where are all those dingbats now? Let's hear the spin . . . .

I don't disagree about the Championship defences - we are where we are. However, i laugh at those on here that showed the snobbery towards the typical championship scoreline from their SL ivory tower. So, what HAS happened to SL defences? is it because "they're crap" like Championship clubs or are we going to have a new spin?

Interesting how you use the 2 worst teams in the league playing on a plastic pitch as your example.

Ha, i see! Actually i just picked two random high scores - sorry about that. Look mate, i could splatter a hatful of matches so far this season on here with "Championship-style" scorelines. And for what it's worth - i don't mind at all those types of scores - i actually took offence to the pompous attitude of some people on here last year at the scorelines, specifically during Thursday night Sky matches, of Championship games. I would like to hear their take on SL's start this year.

| You can only have good defences when you have good players and there aren't many of those in Super League. There just isn't the intensity in Super League games that there is in the NRL.

| Disagree - you can have far more intensity in defence with the current batch of players. SL teams give up points way too easily, particularly once they go behind.

| Defence tactics have not moved on that much comparative to those used in attack, also when teams tire it will be defensive errors that show first more so than attacking errors.
Teams might appear to give up points easily but if you understand the psychology behind human behiour patterns you'd understand how that allows teams to get a roll on as more often than not players struggle to maintain their performance once a team seems to be on top and conversely those in the ascendancy perform better.
This is why psychology in sport (& for that matter any working environ) is massively important.

They are just living in ivory towers, and they won't even see your point now.

| Irrespective of the actual defences issue, I have very very rarely seen any posts critcising Championship games. The vast majority seem to really enjoy them and give credit to what they watch.
On the other hand, the number of bitter posts/threads about 'Super Duper League' or 'Shooper League' defences is ridiculous and tbh I wonder whether most people on here actually like the game of RL.
Sometimes I wish more of our fans just went and watched something else tbh.

| Still better entertainment to be 30-28 than 2-0, but generally I understand your point in terms of 60+ point games.

| The 38-30 win for Widnes was an exciting game today.I do think we can improve our defence and improve as the season progresses.

There does seem to be a lot of high scores so far this season compared to last season, but compared to last season it is incredibly similar. This season 11 scores 39+ last season was 9, this season 4 scores 49+ and 1 60+ score this season and last season. 2010 had half the number of 39+ scores but 2009 had similar figures to this season.
So the number of heavy score-lines are fairly typical and not a recent trend.

| We can't win. If the scores are low people complain about skill being driven out of the game due to defences. If the scores are too high people complain about the defences and ten metres etc. It's an endlessly monotonous discussion. Complaining after this weekend is nonsense seeing as TV served up two belters and the other results showed that competition is very healthy in this sport.

Although Cas' defence has been championship standard since about 2000.

We should reduce the try back to 3 points with 1 for a conversion and 2 for a drop goal. That would keep the scores down.

| So, we're all agreed then - high scorelines donta matter - everything is alright.
Super.
FWIW I find high scoring matches exciting. Tight matches too can be absorbing.
I'll bank this thread and regurgitate it like a budgie the next time a Championship match gets bagged for such scorelines.

I would also be looking at introducing two extra forwards.

| bring back full on contested scrums with no feeding to the LF as well as the unlimited tackle rule & we have a winner.
It's pretty clear to all but those who choose not to look why we have high scoring games more than ever, however seeing this as a weakness in the sport is bonkers. Take the Brazilian soccer attitude back in the day, we might concede a lot of goals but we'll score more than you, that seemed to work pretty well for them.
