| now that rangi chase has been figured out by most opposition defences and teams now weigh him up and know how to handle him it just seems to me that they have no back up plan to get them out of trouble. having watched the game last nite against the giants they had no threat from anywhere else on the pitch, mcgoldrick must be rubbing his hands cos hes pinching money off cas no threat whatsoever, dixon and younguest are championship players at best, the young lads coming through are good but have no confidence and the cas forwards most of them championship level at best.
its gonna be a long hard season for cas they were absolute dire last nite!!1

| Congratulations on starting 2 threads in one day about Cas on neither your own (Fev) or the Cas board
It's easy to single out a teams best player when said team is playing on the back foot every week with poorly coached attacking plays (they only use one now ).
Last night however, he was the only half back on the field for Cas so they made the easy task of sussing out the one play they do run even easier.
I can't believe this but Matterson did a better job than Millward, no idea in attack or defence.

Rangi can't do anything without a fast play the ball, which are obviously few and far between when they play a decent team. I got shot down on here when I said he would get sussed in the Internationals. If you look at his big performances last year the vast majority came against teams that finished in the bottom half. No doubt he'll still be wearing an England shirt at the expense of the far superior English trained Danny Brough.

Couple of things:
His best games last year came against Huddersfield and Wigan...neither of those teams finished in the bottom half (Leeds in the cup too)
Secondly, Brough and Chase play different positions - they will be the half back pair for England (and that is the best combo you can pick).

| Rangi can do nothing about his team mates inability to not drop the ball or commit a foul. He was trying last night but when you you are playing behind a totally beaten pack and a back line that could not keep hold of a ball for toffee, then it is always going to be a struggle.
Whilst i did not think he deserved MOS last year, there is no doubt that he is a very special player. He will be gone a the end of the year unless Milward can sort things out.

Man of steel - the one player who contributes the most to their team, so Rangi Chase
He will be gone at the end of the year? Did you miss that new massive contract he signed? Who's going to pay 750k for him?

I would prefer to see our halfbacks as Brough and Widdop, I thought that Widdop was very good in last year's Four Nations and would work well alongside Brough.

As things stand it is hard to dispute that. Again i am not personally a fan of Rangi being selected for England (not that my opinion counts for much being Scottish ) but he is the pick of the bunch of "eligible" half backs.
Thing is though if he is going to get battered all season in an under performing side, why would he deserve to be picked?
Sounds like i am Cas bashing here but i am not. You where a good side last year and you should be capible of replicating that.

Because if he has a somewhat decent season in a crap team with no forwards then he should play well for England (against Frace & Wales this year) in what will be a dominant pack against teams like that.

Not sure where you got the idea it was for contributing the most to an individual team
According to the RFL website it is for "most outstanding player in the British game"
www.therfl.co.uk/history_and_her ... el_winners
That aside, i would imagine a couple of teams would cough up the 350k that he is obviously worth. 750k? you have got to be joking.

Well a team would have to buy out his contract (3 years at about 175k per) + a fee on top of that the club would want.

If someone offered 100K and Cas needed the money they would sell him simple as that, basic economics. He certainly isn’t worth anymore than that.

But they don't need the money and he's worth as much as the club value him at - and I'm sure RW has said somewhere 500k wouldn't be enough.

So were down from 750K now. It's easy for RW to say that (if he ever did) because he knows no one is stupid enough to pay that amount. As you say he's worth what the club want for him, [iplus[/i what anyone is willing to pay..supply and demand. It's not unrealistic to think Cas would except 100K considering they have a massive wage liability on one individual!

Yes it is and if you think they any team would sell a player of that caliber for 100k then you have some serious delusions.

| I don't rate Chase that highly but he can't do everything on his own. The rest of the Cas team are very average and all any team has to do is to mark Chase out of the game. I'm sure he'd look better if he had better players around him.

Of course they will, especially if they need/want to free up the hefty wage he's on.

| Matterson took Cas as far as the squad allowed him too. He also did exceptionally well of integrating and promoting their youngsters into first team players. But even he couldn't solve their defensive woes.
Millward, hasn't even had time to settle yet due to unforseen circumstances but Castleford's defence looks even worse than last season coupled with their attack struggling. Give them time, things can't get any worse for them. Hopefully Orr returning should help bring structure to their attacking plays

I still don't think they look fit enough, which is inexcusable for any full-time professional side, regardless of what abilities/skills the players have.

Possibly, they did seem to 'give in' rather quickly yesterday. Although against Huddersfield who i'd suggest are one of the fittest sides in the league it was always going to be tough. Players such as Hudson & McGoldrick are stealing a living whilst the lad on loan from Warrington (Mitchell is it?), worked over time to compensate

We sold Westerman for more. HTH.
Therefore, I'd suggest that given the quality that Chase offers, I'd say that a fair assumption is that he's worth significantly more than JW. Ergo, £500k minimum is not unreasonable.

| It's fairly obvious to most that the long contract for Chase wasn't necessarily to tie him to Cas for the next few years - rather, it was to increase his price when the big clubs come knocking.
All this talk of value and worth is rather subjective though - his value will be exactly what the highest bidder is prepared to pay and not a penny more; the pertinent question will be what Cas are prepared to accept to buy out his contract.
