| The increased TV monies is an interesting subject and something that puzzles me as to what the clubs will do with the increased revenue.
Just giving it all to the players seems a fruitless exercise - the sport hasn't got much competition for its top players - a few have gone to other sports but it is a very small minority and the real top players have stayed loyal to the sport. The skills required in Rules and Union are not really transferable for 75% of all RL players.
RL doesn't have competition from the riches that soccer can offer that turns so many young heads in Europe.
If the sport gives all the money to the players you will end up with a similar situation to the premier league in the UK where every club will be carrying a huge deficit and will require a sugar daddy to underwrite the overdraft.
So where should the increased revenue go?

| Alot will go to the players to fight off other codes, hasn't some fb just signed a million dollar per season with the rebels?
Like I've said on other threads Gallop has stated he wants the tv deal in place before the IC and the applications for new clubs can submitted when the IC is in.
Now if a TV company doesn't know if the NRL is expanding to other states why would it pay big money?
It's no secret fox is desperate to gain big subscriptions in VIC, SA and WA so who are they going to throw big money at?

| Grant is currently $3.65mill, salary cap is around $4.4mill. Ideally we will see the NRL grants go up to $6mill with a salary cap going up to $5.5mill but in increments ie 2013 $4.75, 2014 $5, 2015 $5.25, 2016-17 $5.5mill.
This will basically give clubs an extra $1mill+ a year and mean majority of them will be at least break even as opposed to currently losing money, whilst at the same time keeping players happy that they can earn more $'s.
Currently the ARL gets $8mill a year from the NRL to run jnr and amateur RL, NSWRL and QRL also get income from SOO. That should go up to $20mill+. On top of that Victoria and WA should be funded $2million each a year to develop the game at grass roots and run a NSW cup and SG Ball side. SA and NT should also get significant increases to further develop the game and employ more development officers.
NRL marketing budget should triple what it is now so that the game can really get in peoples faces.
The NZRL should receive a slice of the pie to evelop the game in NZ, with particular focus on preparing Wellington/Christchurch for a future NRL team.
The world 9's should be brought back, played on the Gold Coast in February.
Grants should be available to clubs to sign promising PNG jnrs as well as take some games on the road to PNG.
Clubs should be subsidised to take games to Adelaide, Darwin and Wellington/Christchurch.
The NRL should expand by two teams (one has to be Perth!)
Finally a investment fund should be set up with the NRL putting away $5mill a year into it for a rainy day. This could be used to encourgae relocation, build a stadium in Sydney's West or whatever it was needed for in the future.
That would just about take up $200mill a year!

I would split the cash between "Junior Development" in expansion areas and marketing the game centrally.

Yeah I heard people want to lose Monday night Footy. This'll be why.
www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/nrl ... 6025679565
NRL clubs are losing as much as $300,000 a week by having home matches scheduled on Monday nights in what Souths boss Shane Richardson described as "an unmitigated disaster".
The shortfall from lower crowds in Monday night scheduling for pay-TV has left a black hole of at least $2 million in club coffers.
and this:
www.adelaidenow.com.au/sport/nrl ... 6025069285
"Fans hate it. Clubs hate it across the board. Sponsors hate it. It is a financial disaster for us. Clubs are incredibly dissatisfied. We're all fed-up on Monday night.
The NRL gives clubs $40,000 for every Monday night home game.
Summary: It rates well on telly, but no-one wants it and the NRL have to PAY their clubs compensation.

I mentioned that on another thread RB, it has to go. 20,000 fans in two games has been lost to clubs for 80k.
When we've got 18 clubs and with Perth and Nz in different time zones 3 on fri, sat and sun has to be looked at.

| thing clubs have to realise is it isn't just $40k. It is $40k plus whatever Monday night is worth in the TV deal. If they want max $'s in their NRL grant then they have to live with the fact that 3-4 times a year they are going to have to play a Monday night in front of lower crowds.

| yeh because a TV company is going to pay more money for a slot that doesn't rate as well! Monday night Football is a ratings bonanza. The key issue is getting whats its worth, not binning it.

AFL, NRL and S15 go head to head ...
each week it goes something like
1. NRL 1.2 million viewers
2. AFL 700,000 viewers

NRL is like 80% of most watched programs across the ENTIRE Pay TV network
9 out 10 most watched this year are all RL
NRL is the backbone of Foxtel and they pay far more than FTA TV for their shows
we are in for a massive pay day, even before our ratings spiked this year
