He has a very valid point. Hopefully the officials will crack down on the Wigan club and get Super League back to being a valid competition again.
[size=30Disclaimer: I, nor any of my representatives, have suggested Wigan are not a good team. Just that they cheat and try to hurt people...[/size

| These have to be the most controversial comments made since Millward left Super League? Potter is basically saying, other teams could try to hurt people like Wigan do, but they have morals so choose not to.
Big statement in there.

| I love this post.
Potter is bricking it after the mighty Wigan THRASHED his pathetic stains at Old Trafford.
He should quit complaining and get his own house in order before spitting the dummy out.

| Slowing down the ruck...there is a novel idea I wonder why other coaches haven't thought about it!!!!!
Fact is they just do it better than other clubs. I would agree if it is a dangerous tackle then punnish them but if it is abiding by the rules (no matter how far they have been pushed) then let it carry on and let other teams try and get to the same level.

He is saying they use techniques no other team would consider because they are dangerous. So if he is right the other clubs can't match Wigan and its up to the referees to put an end to it.

| We are following the rules, it's as simple as that. The fact we are doing it better than anyone else is getting everyone so annoyed. If it's a bad tackle or a 'chicken wing' then yes punish them, but we aren't breaking any other rules otherwise. I'm quite sure Huddersfield didn't get as much criticism as we did when Nathan Brown brought these tactics over to the UK!

I'm not sure that is the case. Potter doesn't strike me as the type to hold grudges based on jealousy.
Slowing the play the ball down isn't dangerous either. His allegations are quite serious IMO.

| Potter is just trying to get the ref onside, hoping he'll scrutinize it more. He's basically begging for penalties because otherwise his team will be having their a***s handed to them, and he knows it.

| How many of Saints injuries from the weekend were from these types of tackles Potter is talking about?
Agree wiht East Hull FC Fan, he's trying to get the ref on the weekend to watch for it more so they get the game slowed down to their pace rather than a settled championship winning sides pace!

| Potter isn't saying no other team uses any of these techniques, just that Wigan are the worst.
Having heard what he had to say at the Bradford member's forum he has a very valid point imo. He doesn't want to scrap the wrestle element altogether, but just speed it up a little bit and try to stop players using certain pressure points and putting pressure on joints (the worst one being chicken wing tackle)

| Maybe if Potter had been a better coach he would have been up to speed with defensive techniques used in the NRL. Do away with defensive structures and lets play dummy half football the 9 and 10 year olds love it pick up at the play the ball and run

| From what is shown on that article, Potter is mentioning the dangerous tackles, e.g. chicken wing.
It is the writer of the article who is mentioning the wrestle. For those who don't know, the words between these marks (known as quotation marks): " " are comments atributed to a specific person

| Lets wind the ref up before the game then Mick, then they can keep the score down.
I did wonder how long it would be before the lets stop Wigan winning brigade came out.

| It was raised in less detail at our fans forum on Wednesday, and MP certainly had some things to say then as well in relation to things like the "Chicken wing".
I can't remember the exact details, I'm sure another Bulls fan will be able to fill in the blanks, but MP eluded to how when he was at St.George the Aussie boys were taught slightly underhand tactics in the wrestle. MP also said it was no coincedence Jeff Lima had been done in his first game in England for it, as he'll have been used to playing that way in Australia.
Now, I'm not condoning or criticising MP for what he's said, but personally I think Wigan aren't the best team in the comp for no reason. If they're very good in the ruck so be it. The wrestling issue was something that was raised re: Huddersfield last year was it not? Maybe it's the young Aussie coaches like Brown/Maguire that are bringing it into the game over here?
FWIW I'm all for a quicker game, it will benefit the game in England tremendously, and if something can be done about it, in regards to a "crackdown", it will be something that has my backing. Although a quicker ruck against Wigan is something I'm not looking forward to defending against Sunday!

Agreed. Not the brightest of moves either as it may just give Wigan a little bit more incentive.McGuire won't have to bother with his pre match pep talk this weekend,it's already been done for him.

Quote Champions Wigan have been accused in the past of adopting tackle techniques that deliberately slows the play of the ball, halting the momentum of the attacking side and allowing their own defence to reorganise.
Potter experienced that tactic first hand in the Grand Final last year as Wigan beat his former club St Helens at Old Trafford.
"Other clubs could use the same tactics but that comes down to the ethics you want to have at your club," added Potter.
"It's tempting, but if you are potentially going to injure people by doing it then it's not an option and not the way to go for me. '"
He responds to the part the reporter says thus relating to our so called "wrestling" and "slowing the game down" if we truly slowed the game down why did we score more points than anyone else last season? Truth of the matter is; we make it boring for the opposition. Its a competition! Your team goes out to entertain you! They shouldnt be entertaining the Bradford fans too because that probably means they're losing! Why is this so hard to grasp for the RFL and so many coaches and officials of teams (Potter, Kear and Hetherington thus far)

| Perhaps someone should point the numpty in the direction of the OPTA fairplay team of the week.
It contains 3 Wigan "thugs" and only 1 Bradford player.
[urlhttp://www.superleague.co.uk/article.php?id=21059[/url
Pretty credible company are OPTA, it might be worth paying attention to what they have to say?
Let he who is without sin..........
