Anyone got a list of average attendances for the Championship and Championship 1 for this season?

It's in the link on the right of the screen on Championship stats

They will be down on last year because nobodys playing ' silly bugg3rs ' this year trying to impress the licence bobbys

so after all that moaning about Toulouse they are drawing the 4th largest crowds despite finishing 2nd bottom...

Anyone got a comparison with 08? Simply because ive been casually looking at the LE this year and there was almost always crowds higher than I expected.

Must admit I feel gate receipts are probably a more accurate reflection when clubs are 'battling' it out up for SL franchises

Toulouse have the benefit of the weekend french fancy trip that 200/400 of practibilly every club took, they will probably all take less as the novelty fades.

Barrow averaged 2280 by the way.

widnes crowds are brilliant

rovers had a similar average in NL1 and are now over 8000. id expect widnes to get at least 8000 in SL.

even toulose crowds are fairly good too and bode well for their entry into SL.

Widnes averaged over 7k last time they were in the top flight and that was largely watching a rubbish side.

In the long term, getting 10k through the gate is a realistic target.

I'm not so sure about the attendance calculators in the south of France, but it is a great achievement by Toulouse.

Cracking average from Widnes.....I have no doubt that you would see 10k+ once in SL in 2012.

Different game now. Crowds weren't a big requirement as the club had a benefactor that simply wanted to out wigan, wigan. This time around, every fan who pays at the gate is important and Widnes have the catchment area to attract 10,000 fans.

Widnes were still a members club at the time, with members (ie season ticket holders) simply voting a committee to run the club every season - usually a mix of ex-players/coaches, local councillors, local businessmen & well known spectators. Don't think there was ever anybody putting significant amounts of money in - and no ability to run up large debts as committe members were personably responsible.

But your general point is a good one; crowd figures are more important now, the game is higher profile in some ways, Widnes stadium is much better and clubs are generally much more clued up about marketing. 10k average would certainly be a reasonable target.

We used to get 4,000 last time we was in the top flight, now we get 8,000+. No reason why a well run Widnes couldn't be doing the same.

Interesting to see that a few of them have bigger attendances than Harlequins and Celtic

Considering how much morethe RFL feel these clubs are of value to Super League, I am absolutely flabbergasted!
