| RL ,afl, soccer, cricket, union, Players took the 3 weeks challenge to find out who will be the fittest sportman in OZ .And yes the fittest man is no other then "Billy the kid Slater" he absolutely blasted every other sportsman off the paddock, union and afl players turning there heads in disbelief as Billy took the lead in the everyday contest.
So if the poms were to have one similar who would it be turning up for RL?

| As fans I think it's difficult to tell. I mean you watch Slater and it's obvious he's one of the best, but less obvious he's the fittest.

We had a program like that years ago and then it returned for a couple of series a few years ago. Superstars. Only trouble is we don't get current top sportsmen on it we had Offiah and Austin Healey, neither being anywhere near their prime. In the original series of Superstars Des Drummond competed but I was only young at the time so I've no idea how he went.
I suppose it could depend on what the events were. We had Sprinting, dips, archery, canoeing, climbing, swimming. What events did the Aussies do?

| In the old Superstars Dessy did well, and may have got the record for 100m, (for the programme not world!). However Keith Fielding the Salford winger won it in the 70s, and was one of the stars of the show. It often seemed to be between him and Judos Brian Jacks. IIRC, in a NZ version, forward Kurt Sorenson beat All Black wing legend Stu Wilson over 100m. Hard to tell who would do well today, but the advantage is to the smaller player, wings or half backs Blanch could be a good call. Didnt Long only lose out to Ricky Hatton in Soccer ams press up comp.

Superstars results are here
news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tv_and_ ... 959150.stm
RL players as you can see have done very well
Keith Fielding won it twice
Des Drummond and Joe Lydon both finished 2nd
Interestingly des came second to Brian Hooper who in later years was disgraced when involved in a drugs scandel
Des Drummond holds the 100metre record in the comp of 10.85 seconds

To be fair, we are a long, long way off. Their country was built on those principles.

This one?
Quote Energy supplier Powergen has joined forces with a renowned expert in the field of sports science, Professor Mike Gleeson of Loughborough University, to answer an age old sporting question – which sport uses the most energy?
By measuring the heart rates of football, Rugby Union and Rugby League players, referees and supporters over the course of a season, Powergen has finally answered that question: the most energy sapping sport around is Rugby League.
With its combination of powerful bursts of attacking play and the strenuous nature of defence, Rugby League offers a physical challenge above and beyond other British sports:
* A typical Rugby League player uses up to 6,800 Kilojoules of energy per game – roughly 10% more than a football or Rugby Union player
* Rugby League players need stamina to cover the estimated 5-10 km a typical player runs in a game
* They must be strong to endure the continual pounding of up to 40 tackles per match
The Powergen Player Energy Report found that although the ball is only in play for around 50 minutes during an 80 minute Rugby League game, the intensity of the activity within each passage of play makes for a gruelling physical challenge for even the fittest of players.
And although 50 minutes seems like a short period of time, it should be remembered that players in the rival Rugby Union code only exert themselves for an average of 30 minutes – giving Rugby League players 20 minutes extra to tackle, scrummage, run and pass.
Powergen, which is part of E.ON UK, has also looked into the experience of a typical supporter during a game and found that with its numerous tries and the excitement of video referees, Rugby League also offers the most nerve wracking experience for fans.'"
