Refs are struggling at the moment because they are being asked to go through a checklist for offences rather than just judge them. Thats why we have ended up with an obstruction rule that doesnt need anyone to actually be obstructed and a charge down from the player furthest downfield from the kicker.

My love for this sport is waning.

The idea of a dummy runner is to suck in defenders. Williams just got sucked in. How can they give them as no trys? Hauraki carried on and ran through the line, which I though is often what makes the difference between obstruction and no obstruction (you're not allowed to stop in the defensive line).

Bad miss on the shoulder charge, it was pretty obvious.

The Cas no try for obstruction was correct in my opinion. Dummy runner got in the way of a defender shifting across. Needed to run at the opposite shoulder of the defender.

But that charge down decision was just ridiculous, he was 5 metres away desperately trying to stop a try. Knock on 10000000000 out of 10000000000 times. Anyone can see that. And the obstruction rule takes the pi55. Looking to give it at the first opportunity, benefit always goes to the defensive team. And the refs have no bottle, if they think it's obstruction then give it yourself instead of going to the video ref on every try just on the off chance there was an 'obstruction'. Ruining not just this game but every game.

It's clear that referees should be allowed to use common sense, the problem being that they don't seem to have any common sense to use.

Think it was Cummings who explained it that way a couple of weeks a go. For me it should be if a player is prevented from making a tackle. Forget this "running behind the man" rubbish. That is what is causing most the problems.

I agree, it's just with the use of dummy runners it can be quite difficult to really judge this, as players are running into the defensive line and into defenders while players take the ball behind, so they've brought in this checklist and criteria to try and make decisions easier and more consisent.

That's the law. No rule on how far the player has to be, simply that the ball has to be rising. So that's the only issue up for debate - was the ball rising? That Bowen was a couple of metres away is irrelevant.

At first glance I thought Bowen's was a shoulder charge, but on second viewing looks far more like a body check.
