What a surprise this morning to read that Morgan Knowles has signed a new 4 year contract with Saints. Undeniably the best player in Super League, it's a real shock that he's decided to stay here as he must have had some huge offers from the NRL.

With Newman signing on at Leeds to when he could easily have moved to a big Super League club, Union or the NRL is it a positive sign for Super League? Or just the individual circumstances of these two players meaning they didn't want to go to the NRL at this moment?

I can only assume Newman's pretty comfortable playing for one of the SL minnows.

Possibly, but time is on his side. If they keep players like him they might eventually be competitive in the play offs.

Not really the most relevant stat is it. Saints haven't beaten Halifax in a major final in a while either.

We’ve a fair number of young players coming through the clubs systems now, what we need to do now is reduce the quota on the amount of overseas players and think more mid-long term.

Some clubs seem to have this turn around of players that effects stability of clubs, our scholarships and academies need decent pathways to transition into the Championship and Superleague.

Those awards are a complete joke. Tomkins got a bit of hype from Sky after Catalans won a few games. In all seriousness the MOS and the best player in the league by a distance is Alex Walmsley, we all know that. Knowles is the best 13 in SL.

I think Man of Steal is more apt these days. Our very own Lomax was in the short list of 3 but the likes of his mates Walmsley, Coote, Knowles and Welsby played better than him over the whole season.

But they are NOT the man of steel and Sam is accept it he is undeniably the best player not any saints players.

Not a bad bit of business though, I can't imagine any of the other super league teams who wouldn't want to sign him.

Putting the awful fishing attempt to one side, it is a great signing. There will be a few things acting as a hurdle to go to the NRL at the moment, COVID being one obviously, but Bateman, Williams and Thompson will have left a sour taste.

Your tune seems to have changed to him not even being the best player at Saints (he isn't) let alone the league.

Sam is still the man of steel so he must be the best player in superleague not Knowles who is not as good as Walmsley but arguably the best player ,go figure that one out.

If you put Sam into the Saints team he wouldn’t win the title Man of Steal, he would game after game share those MOS points amongst 4 or 5 other quality Saints players.
You could say he is the best player for Catalans in most games hence his points accrual, still a very talented rugby player though.

Great news for the back to back to back champions. He had offers from a number of top NRL teams so I can only assume recently starting a family swung it in favour of St Helens.

best 13 probably best player no as voted at the man of steel.

Not sure the MOS is always a good indication of the best player in the league, Jordan Abdull isn't in the top 5 for example, but Sam would be up there if you were doing a list.

Knowles is probably the best 13 as our resident troll says, but he certainly isn't the best player.
