Here we go. We're short of at least one well backed go forward club in Superleague so give them the go now?
Or make them play off with £Millionaire Kurdi's Newcastle.
Or put them both in and [uget rid of a "village" club[/u if you want to be like that
What is it this game wants? It's wealthy owners of city based clubs in places where the game has a good foothold. They are right under Elstone's nose..........

I'd have about £3 so presumably you've been around a lot more people that talk about York than me. They were off my radar a bit until Bradford went down to the bottom division, but the games between us were great and they seem a well coached team who are on the up. I wish them well.

I'm happy to give you the £1 for when they moved out of York and into the awful Ryedale Stadium not that that was exactly "Going places" Not that I think that counts.
What counts is when the ground is REAL and likely to boost attendances and the owner is likely to boost the quality of the team. That is already happening (crowds well up and York well up the Championship}. perhaps you can give us references to the many false dawns for York over the years? Links please?
Then we also have the demise of the soccer club which is bound to help. I wish I had £1 for every mean spirited reply...............

They did look well set for a while but, pre lockdown, just like Bradford or Newcastle, you wouldn't have put them as promotion contenders.
Assuming that the game is played in the lower leagues next season, they may make progress and like you, I wish them well but, in a straight line its going to take a few seasons for all 3 of these clubs to make progress.
Leigh, Widnes, London, Toulouse are all some way in front of them and will take some moving from the top end of the Championship and there may or may not be some N .American clubs back in the fray.
Should make for a competitive league though and lets just hope they are all alive, kicking and playing RL in 2021

Absolutely brilliant.
They don't have a reserve side and don't produce players.
Sign a load of players over 30 yrs of age.
Yet you spend an inordinate amount of time starting threads criticising overseas clubs for the same reasons.
Absolute gold.

It's ok, 'cos they're English. It's just the foreigners he doesn't like
More than happy to see them progress but, despite the optimism from the op, they have a long way to go,

| Good luck to York, they certainly seem to have been heading in the right direction pre-Covid.
As for Newcastle, I really don't see how they are any more ready for SL than for example (the Club I support) Doncaster, who have historically stated aspirations of progressing through the leagues but who I would freely accept are far from ready as things stand.

Saying yes to TWP is also saying a big direct NO to Mr. Flatman and Mr. Kurdi..........
Indirectly it sends a signal of a big yes to Ottawa and New York. There are two paths to travel, carry on accommodating the American dream - or expand the English professional game with two new rich owners. Here is Eric Perez
Perez: “[iToronto’s personal upside is to someday be Super League Champions. We can also grow a North American Rugby League. There is already interest from U.S. cities in the northeast (Boston and New York) who are watching closely. Our long-term goal is to organically grow the sport in Canada and the U.S”.
[/i
Perez: [i"From minute one we had a 10-15 year plan of expansion, Montreal is next on the list. We hope for a Montreal team in League 1 by 2019. We already a few pretty big ownership groups that are interested. Toronto is a city of six million people and, within an-hour’s radius, you’ve got 10 million. After Montreal let’s get into the United States, Boston, New York and go from there.”[/i
Perez: “o[ine rugby league team isn’t enough in North America. There's so much more potential for it to grow over here. "It's kind of the perfect sport for North America. "When we started the Toronto Wolfpack, we always knew that for the Wolfpack and the whole venture to be properly successful, there needs to be further expansion. I think Ottawa makes a lot of sense"[/i.
Perez: “[iI expect rugby league to spread to more Canadian cities, I have already been contacted by groups in Montreal and Vancouver[/i”.

You cant move "Donny" too far away from his favourite subject.
In a wicked irony twist, I noticed that York's results, pre lockdown, had mirrored those of TWP and yet, there are some who believe that should be promoted to SL, along with Newcastle who are in League 1.
Mind you, Newcastle are unbeaten this season

It would largely be that but the usual suspects are here to shout it all down.
The choice for the game come the decision on TWP appears to be whether to go Transatlantic (hence Elstone included all three NA clubs in his deliberations)...... Which is one thing.......OR go back to Anglo-French.
All through this debate across the game there has been an idea that glamorous North American clubs offer us far far more than North of England championship clubs nobody across the world has ever heard of. But my point is that we can now see what the three north American clubs offer which is erm nothing, the only rich guy walked and the only potential investor wants to minimise his investment and grab TV money from here.
These subjects can't be isolated, yes we should talk about how well York and consequently Newcastle are doing on this thread, but we should recognise this is in the context of the opinion a number of people hold that we need these North American clubs because there's nobody in the championship good enough to come into Superleague.
What more do they want than two clubs with great ambition, £Millionaire owners, Great stadiums and player development systems they didn't have to have whilst outside Superleague? It's well worth reminding all on here how well York (and Newcastle) have done.....
The tremendous irony is of course there's a tendency for some Wakefield Fans to rubbish York and Newcastle, but I suppose as their club is struggling they may feel threatened by these clubs even if TWP get the boot. Wakey and TWP out and York and Newcastle in??. Would this greatly improve Superleague is the question now as the debate matures

I have you on ignore these days but braved a peek at this post.
OMG, you are getting further and further off beam and all in the quest of wanting Toronto (and Catalan) out of SL
It's just ridiculous.
Also, ignoring the league structure in some phoney attempt to "big up" the plight of York and Newcastle - both of whom I'm more than happy to see progress.
The irony in your hatred of Toronto, who went for using money over grassroots RL to achieve top flight status and your love for two other clubs going the "money" root, is just hilarious.
As for "rubbishing" these 2 clubs, seriously ???
Like I said, I wish them both well and the only rubbishing is because you seem to want to give them a free pass to the top flight because their owners have a few quid - that's not sport, not even close.
Anyway, back on the ignore button

So I am not actually on ignore then
The owners can afford to run their clubs professionally no different to TWP (until Argyle left) except TWP didn't deliver any player development or sky dish sales but Newcastle and York offer both.
This is what the game wants to expand, [uexpand the player pool[/u not shift the same players all over the world at ridiculous expense.
Expand the commercial revenue not deplete it by showing phoney overseas clubs instead of clubs who offer TV subscription buying fans.....
Please ignore me personally all you want, but don't ignore what Perez offered the game here and that was NA TV subs and NA pro-players.
Don't ignore the fact neither were delivered and never will be.

Yor and/or Newcastle wont deliver a TV deal, they would both (rightly) want a slice of the existing/new deal should they make it into SL.
Toronto didn't take any money ! (I realise that this may change should they come back into SL)
The irony of bigging up York, who just like Toronto hadn't won any of their early Championship fixtures is quite ironic.
As said, I'd love for York to be good enough and for them to compete in SL but, your personal agenda is becoming ever more desperate>
Just to help, here is a link to the league table before the season was halted:
https://www.skysports.com/rugbyleague/c ... hip/tables.
Why aren't you advocating Leigh or Toulouse for the top flight both of whom, at the moment, are significantly stronger candidates then York (or Newcastle).

That also equates to a minimum of 50% of Super League too.
