Police are investigating a death threat made to Robert Hicks, according to Gary Carter on Twitter.

It should not matter who clubs he supports, other than for that clubs supporters and officials to root out scum like this. It is a deplorable situation and should not be used to attack clubs as per the norm on here.

What does matter is Hicks getting the right support.

He's hardly done it anonymously! Get the clown arrested and banned from any future match. The most disturbing thing about this for me is that Hicks is actually the best ref we've got!!

It is old news from 31st May - and reported in the Warrington Guardian 1st June.

It seems these 'Elite' league players - and followers - are trying their very best to scupper any broadcast deals for the future.

It is not a very good year,thus far,on and off the field,in so many ways.

I think everyone understands that a crowd are occasionally going to sing uncomplimentary songs about a referee, and I’m not one who protects referees from criticism but that’s just crazy.

Anyone who is taking the sport that seriously should have no place within it.

All credit to Hicks, i think this is a brilliant way to handle the situation and the so called fan got away light, probably feeling a bit foolish

I understand that Karl Fitzpatrick also played a part in setting that meeting up. So, well done WRLFC.

Warrington have banned the nutjob but suspended his ban, must have taken advice from the RFL Disciplinary Panel.
How the hell is that a suitable punishment. It is a hate crime, he should be in court.

The Warrington fan got off lightly .A threat to kill would have resulted in Hicks receiving a Osman warning .
I find it incomprehensible that the Warrington Club are letting this person frequent their Stadium .

The Police don’t take much seriously these days .A visit from them and a suspended ban is nuts .

However this Warrington Bloke must be a right tool . Issue a death threat on Twitter with your name and a photograph on your account . He was never going to shoot anyone . Oh I know ...I will take out a match official live on television .

How was the Bloke going to sneak a M99 through the turnstiles rig up and take the official out .
They should parade him at the next home Warrington match so everyone can laugh at him .

No matter how bad the referee is, death threats are only fit from the scum of the earth.
Rob Hicks has shown immense courage for doing this. He deserves the respect of the whole rugby league community.

I Think what he means is although a death threat is horrendous in itself, but if I was to guess I reckon 99.999999% of death threats are a knee jerk statement and are (fortunately) not carried out and are said to cause maximum distress of which I have no doubt they do exactly that, and again fortunately this threat was in the 99.9999999 % bracket and was in all honesty going to be as if he was a professional assassin he would not have made the threat as it would of hindered his chances of carrying it out, this is the internet’s problem these days ,people’s reactions are public in an instant, if he had time for reflection I dare say in 1980 hull fans thought terrible things about Fred Lindop but by the time they sat down and we’re going to pen a letter the feelings had subsided, that and a 1st class stamp would be a waste of 12p.

This Dip should be banned out right in my eyes, it wasn't something he just said whilst riled up in the heat of the moment. He took his time to go on Twitter and type out a death threat.....on his own twitter account.....with his picture on......Jesus wept.
For me fair enough he's met Hicks and will have apologised etc which takes balls on both sides to meet up like this, but get rid of him please.

Hull KR have been praised by Super League referee Robert Hicks for their “above and beyond” support after he was the subject of an online death threat.

A Warrington fan made the threat on Twitter following the Wolves’ Challenge Cup quarter-final victory at KCOM Craven Park in May.


Warrington immediately launched an investigation and the police contacted the supporter, while Hull Live has learned that KR arranged for Hicks to be escorted from the stadium and safely onto the motorway.

The club’s proactive approach has not been forgotten by the official as he tweeted: “Hopefully some good comes out of it. Its time for a line in the sand. Personally the support for me & my family was excellent from so many friends. Have to also commend the way people at @TheRFL @WarringtonRLFC & @hullkrofficial handled this was above & beyond.”

Its idiots like this and the limp wristed response thereafter that make me happy i am nearer death than birth..... This world is on a collision course with its demise.....
