| Year upon year, empty seats, quality product.
Such a shame.
The final legacy of Nigel Wood.
Destroyed everything he put his mind to.
He's got shares in GB swimming ironically

With the standards of play in the game at the minute, a dozen games over 3 days would leave even the most hardened fan ready to top themselves!

Just make sure you take a break when Leeds are playing and you should be alright.

| Whoever decided the fixtures needs shooting. One of yesterday's games should have been the main event today and batley v dewsbury the middle game today.
That said, crowds at events like this will dwindle with copious amounts of expansion sides as they bring little to no support at events like this.
It could be a better event next year potentially:
Sheffield v Barrow
Dewsbury v batley
Leigh v salford
York v london
Halifax v bradford
Widnes v fev

How is it Nigel,s fault if people are not interested? No one will acknowledge the elephant in the room” there are an aging few of us that love the game but the numbers are dwindling “ Our great game is no longer played in schools, all sports are finding it hard to get kids playing & those that follow the sport are mostly from lower earning communities that the advertisers are not interested in. Non of the afore mentioned are any fault of Nigel Wood or the RFL.

Why ?
Maybe they should have the summer bash when there aren't any SL fixtures, which would hopefully see SL fans turn up to watch some Championship Rugby.
There have been some cracking fixtures this weekend but, unless you are a hardened RL fan, you wouldnt even know that the event was taking place and therein lies the problem.
If they have sold plenty of tickets for the weekend, there's no problem with empty seats.

| Combined attendence over two days considerably less than leeds average weekly attendence but these “traditional clubs” want to rule the roost dictate to the big super league clubs on league structure on every issue.

I'm not saying it should happen I was just putting a suggestion to answer the OP the fact is you could put the summer bash in a 3000 seater stadium and it would be still empty all teams playing today struggle to get a 1000 fans to a home game

| I'm critical of the RFL on lots of things at the minute, but what exactly were people expecting to happen when HullKR and Bradford are no longer in this event? You could run a massive worldwide TV ad campaign and Batley - Dewsbury would still be of no interest outside a corner of West Yorkshire.

If you can't see the direct connection between attendances and successful clubs, then I reckon you must work at Red Hall.
Hull FC, Wire, Wigan, Leeds and St Helens sit in 5 of the top 6 spots and have delivered 390,000 fans over 33 games......the other 7 sides have delivered have delivered 310,000 over 52 games.....5,960 gives you a middle/bottom side whilst 11,800 gives you a shot at the title......
......as for what 7k rattling around a stadium that holds 18k looks like to the casual observer is one thing, but 4,000 is an embarrassment to the sport...11k over 2 days is shocking.....London v Toulouse was a cracking game, but to a casual viewer, it just emphasizes the national belief that we're a northern hobby played in front of tiny audiences......compare it to the other lot and their "exhibition" game played this weekend and tell we don't have a problem!

I don’t compare it to any other sport, I am. Rugby league fan. I don’t care about numbers at games or if it is super dooper league or local kids on the park it is a game. To me clubs profits are not my problem if players want to become rich learn golf, tennis, soccer or get an education! play the game because you love it & watch it for the same reason. If we can’t survive on that then we deserve to disappear. Yes it would be ok if we got the coverage soccer got along with the cash but be careful what you wish for, we still can meet & mix with our players & owners & they are part of the community celebrate it & that we know it is the greatest game around.

Well we should, because we're all scrapping for the attention of fans and sponsors and broadcasters and if our product isn't "aspirational" then we will vanish as a professional sporting the UK.
I don't for one second expect Rugby League to compete on a level playing field with Soccer, but the reality is.......and as much as it doesn't make pleasant reading, that in 1996 we had a TV deal, a new schedule and a real chance to grow. At the same time the 'other lot' were starting off down the professional route without a pot to pee in......fast forward 22 years and whilst we cling to SKY TV....and cling like grateful puppies I'll add, they've got domestic and pan european TV deals with BT/SKY/Premier as well as French, South African and Irish broadcast companies. They have totally and utterly left us in their tracks and you'd be happy to accept that based on being able to chat with a player in the club bar?
The game is just insular and inward looking and is dying a death in front of our eyes and you stamp your feet claiming we shouldn't compare ourselves with "other sports" because we can chat with club owners....attendances are down, viewing figures are down, sponsors are harder to find 4k fans in an 18k stadium on TV is a shambles and a disgrace.

Not one thing you say is wrong but my point is that unless we attract people who can afford to pay £60 a ticket & jet off to a game in Europe then the big paying sponsors & TV bosses will ignore us, I don’t understand why folk can’t see that the vast majority of people even in the North don’t give a toss about our sport or any other sport. That is nothing to do with the quality of our game or Nigel Wood & the RFL is my point.

| FWIW I've noticed the dwindling numbers going to the races at Haydock to the point that they converted a standing area into a car park. 10 years ago Haydock would be on every 2/3 weeks and would sell out on all stands, now it's a ghost town. I think I read that Kempton is considering selling its track to make way for a new housing estate. It's heartbreaking to see these sports lose out the mediocrity of wendyball. Wendyball numbers will start to reduce with ticket and travel price rises, however that sport can cover those loses with sponsorship money, that's until social media completely dominates advertising and at that point there will be no sponsorship revenue for anyone. In general people need to stop believing the tory press and wake up to the fact that every one is skint and the country is in a complete mess.
