| 14,526 for Hull/Leeds with Hull fans outnumbering Leeds fans by half as any again at least.
salford/Wigan saw a pitiful 10,796, with neither clubs' fans having to travel further than 20miles.
Time for double headers at the one stadia with advantage going to team whose fans bother to get up for the cc

| By your reckoning Man Utd and Man City are the best teams and should replace Wigan and Hull at Wembley: instead of playing RL, we count those going through the turnstiles. Would save on paying players' wages.
Sorry but I do not follow your argument at all. Certainly where I was stood, it was packed.

Was yours a sell out? Double header might be a good idea, the only issue being that the BBC like to televise over 2 days, can't see them wanting 4 hours of RL in one go.

| When Hull get 10k + average and Leeds get 14k + average, I would hope that 14.5k for a semi would be the least they would get. As of Wigan & Salford, I think Wigan fans should be ashamed. Salford took more than their home average attendance so why only a few thousand from Wigan?

It was similar last year when we played Wigan in Doncaster, their fans didn't bother turning up for that.
Hopefully they'll make the effort to go to the final, otherwise the rfl will have more ammo to move it.

| Our fans are notoriously bad for attending semi finals, probably because they're hardly a novelty to us so people will just wait for the final. One other theory I have is that we have a much larger elderly following, where I sit about 80% of the fans are probably 65+!

So they get tickets even cheaper, there's no excuse because there's a few oldies. Last year there were barely 2.5k Wigan fans, okay it was the other side of the pennines I'll grant you but this time around it was on your doorstep virtually. Are your fans really not that bothered to travel just an extra 15-25 minutes when the ticket prices are about the same as a normal league game? I mean they travel to St.helens in numbers which is further than Warrington.

More like you take your success for granted and the "fans" save their brass for a final ticket.
Considering that Wigan are a "big" club, their supporter numbers in semi finals has been mickey poor.

No it isn't. 8 miles to St.Helens 14 miles to Warrington. I'm over 65 and I went to Doncaster, Hull, Sydney(2014) Leeds, Newcastle etc.
I'm going to the World Cup (5weeks) too. So us old barstewards can and do travel!

| In the SL era, Wigan have failed to qualify for a semi-final (Cup, SL or old Premiership) in only 99, 05 and 06.
A near certainty every season, and only 7 of 22 SL seasons have we not contested a final. No excuses, but some of the fans being critical would see exactly the same if their club was as successful.

| Don't care what any Wigan fan days. It's Abysmal only taking a couple thousand to a semi final. Working on what you are saying that you "get to so many" that means you will only take a few thousand to Wembley too?? I very much doubt it. You will all come crawling out of the woodwork.

Haha. What was your average attendance in 2014 and how many did you take to Wembley that year? All clubs have fans that only attend finals. And if they didn't we'd have stadiums that are 3/4 empty every time.

Yep. It's an additional expense for fans whilst not being particularly unique or exciting in the context of if we lose this season we're likely to be in 1 next year anyway.
I went to the semi final this year mainly because it was an opportunity to have a day with my family, not particularly for the rugby. If we hadn't gone I wouldn't have been that disappointed to miss the game.
Maybe moving it back to May might help, maybe now the league is more competitive some "smaller" clubs might get more success in the cup earlier in the season while the likes of Leeds, Wigan, Saints etc aim to peak toward the end?
However I think the main issue is that Cup games aren't on season tickets. People clearly don't like to, or find it easy to pay out for extra games.
I've thought for a while the sport should look at some kind of RFL season ticket to replace the standard club season ticket.
It would obviously have your clubs home league games included but would also include home cup games and it would include either free or discounted entry to event games such as Cup semis, the magic weekend, playoffs and any home internationals, whether your team is involved or not. There obviously would have to be some kind of system to register for tickets for those games that also ensured people didn't abuse the system but im sure it's not beyond the wit of man to design such a system.
In my opinion, the sport needs to be driven forward as one sport rather than a disparate collection of clubs all pulling in slightly different directions.

I'm one of those 65+ ones, and I rarely miss a game, home or away! Wish I knew what the answer was, I've talked to a lot of people who didn't go and they come up with dozens of "excuses". Back in the days of our 8-in-a-row we were regularly getting 20k+ in semi-finals, so I'm not convinced about the lack of novelty idea.
One issue I've not seen mentioned here is the ban on ticket sales on the day, which might have had an effect, perhaps. Understandable though, given the post-match behaviour of the Salford lot.

So I will make the point. When we had sold out our initial allocation of 5000 tickets we got some more. Still not great but some could not see that many because of the blinkers.

Don't see this working at all. Why would fans of lesser clubs buy into it when their cup appearances are few relative to the likes of Leeds or Wigan, say? And would the fans of the bigger clubs be any more likely to do so? What if the reasons for poor semi attendances are not cost alone but involve travel (which most fans don't do) and the fact that they tend to get played on Saturdays and Sundays rather than the Friday which seems to be the fans' general preference (is it coincidence that the better supported clubs have settled on a Friday wherever possible?).
Could the RFL market the scheme any better than the clubs currently do?
However, I see no reason why the RFL shouldn't market and sell a ticket that covers internationals, cup games including the final, Grand Final and maybe the play offs. Give that a trial, see how they get on with it then maybe look at a wider scheme.
