Arrogance, smugness and disrespect shown to other clubs and people from various parts of the Leigh club not just their ridiculous owner.

Typical 'modern day mentality' my friend, judging clubs or even people by what they decide to type on their keyboard. So Leigh might have maybe 15 (just a random figure) cocky keyboard warriors, so that is the reason we get riduculous topics like this....and then other folk decide to add their intellectual comments also. Our owner is outspoken yes, but if he was in charge of a team near the bottom of championship one, doubt they/he would ever be commented here on the virtual terrace. Leigh 'are a threat' like Bradford/London/Halifax/Sheffield/Fev etc are, to a Super League club losing their place, or a fellow championship club not making the 'middle 8's'. That is also part of the reason we are discussed on here a lot, and we have spent 'much more cash' than other championship clubs, oh and also our disciplinary is pretty awful (allegedly). Hopefully it will all calm down, but the reaction to us losing at Batley, was as if Thatto Heath had beaten St. Helens !

i don't dislike Leigh, i think a few Leigh fans, players, and officials rubbed people up the wrong way with their blustery bold boasting about how good they were and how they would storm to super league and then how they would batter all comers because they had more money and better players than everyone else etc.
made worse by the cup run, when most neutrals were actually fully supportive and behind Leigh, all that goodwill soon disappeared when the cockiness started
obviously Leigh's spectacular collapse in the 8's meant that the nose rubbing came back to haunt them.

I like Leigh RLFC. A few peckerhead supporters haven't changed my opinion of them.

I don't understand how people decide they dislike an entire club based on a minority of idiots. In the case of Leigh, I think Beaumont come out with a load of crap on a regular basis, a minority of their fans are arrogant and disrespectful. That makes me dislike Beaumont and a few of their fans not the entire club, it's players and supporters. All clubs have individuals associated with them who I think are idiots but I'm sensible enough not to stereotype the whole club because of it.

spot on, this is another thing that gets me with Leigh, most of their fans are like any others, good, friendly, knowledgable RL fans who you can talk to and have a bit of banter with... but some Leigh fans last year were totally the opposite, and now get all defensive and ironic because people are perceived to have a problem with Leigh, because of those same fans.

The nicest fans I met last year were Leigh fans the weekend after we'd beaten Wire in the CC before we played them in the Rubbish 8's.

Very chatty, very welcoming, very knowledgeable, although I'm perhaps the last person to give that award.

I don't mind Leigh at all

As a totally parochial supporter, I dislike Leigh.

However, they don’t make my top ten.

I am a Leigh fan and we have a minority of cocky gobby keyboard warriors that p*ss me off at times so no surprise that some fans from other clubs feel the same way.

I also cringe at some of the stuff Derek comes out with although I have met the guy and people take him and what he says far more seriously than he takes himself. He is a very smart and eloquent guy 99% of the time but (for whatever reason) he is perfectly happy to play the pantomime villain and wind folk up. It isn't how I would approach things but then I am not a multi millionaire and even if I was I doubt I would be as generous with my cash towards Leigh as Derek is.

2 years of almost everything going our way got some carried away. The middle 8's were a big bump down to earth and people obviously were eager to rub it in.

We aren't as good as SOME of our fans believe, we are also nowhere near as bad as our middle 8's performances suggested.

I think we have strengthened from last year and will give SL another good shot.

Under Derek's leadership and the new BOD the club has gone from strength to strength over the past 3 years. The town is buzzing, crowds have doubled, the product on the pitch is superb to watch and things have improved dramatically off the field too in terms of sponsorship, merchandise, corporate and community work.

If the downside of the new 'regime' is that some people dislike us, then fine, I am not going to lose any sleep over that.

Its always nice to have an alternate view like the 2 above posters.I'm heartened that not everyone one hates Leigh.

At the end of the day Derek is what he is,you take him with a pinch of salt,you like him or you hate him,its that simple.

The interview after the Batley game is the perfect example,he praised the Batley club,the coach the fans,the history,everything and yet cos it wasnt worded how they want it to be, they're all hissy fitting.

Every club has its loonies and because Leighs fan base is growing,we're now getting them on these forums,but to be fair some of them, i think its over excitement because the team was playing so well.

If you want to take note it will be the same loonies from Leigh responding to the same windup merchants from other clubs,but thats what forums are about isnt it.

I don't dislike Leigh, they've produced some good players over the years.

As others have said they have some idiot fans but eveey club has its share of those.

They just need to realise that all RL clubs need each other and each other's supporters or we haven't got a sport.
