| I've been playing rugby since I was 6 years old I'm 24 now and in ally years I have never seen a serious injury due too a shoulder charge yes they hurt and they take the wind out of you but your ready for it your looking for that contact! I can't believe the rfl has banned them but still allow this tackle were the players hold someone up and someone goes in and attacks the standing leg! Saw chase do it too ferres but nearly every tackle it happens now and is causing some serious knee/ankle problems! They need too get on top of this now and start throwing big bans at the culprits it's a horrible tackle!

| I've seen plenty of injuries from shoulder charges. Unfortunately the players proved they couldn't be trusted to perform the shoulder charge safely, they were literally just throwing themselves forward, so it had to go.
The cannonball tackle is illegal, but unfortunately rarely enforced.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's more dangerous as a cannonball tackle can't hit you in the head, but I take the point about the dangerous nature of the tackle. It's something I wish the RFL would stamp out. Immediate sin binnings each and every time it occurs would probably do the trick and bans for serial offenders.

| The Chase 'tackle' on Ferres was actually ignored on the field by James Child until one of the touchjudges told him what happened, even then Child just put it on report. If players know they can commit a dangerous tackle and put a key man out of the game and not get punished they will continue to do it...

| There is absolutely no need to attack the legs around the knee joint, even when you do so 'with' the joint rather than 'against' it.
Contact aimed at the upper thigh or hip area is more than enough, the player can then slide down the legs hugging them at the knee area in order to control the tackled player.
Canonballing against the joint is a horrible thing to do to another player, it's akin to the studs up over the ball tackle in soccer and can end a career!

| I'd rather that the cruicate ligament gone!! I think we will start too see some horrible I jury's!! How we don't see compound fractured is beyond me! All that weight onto the joints is horrendous! Not condoning shoulder charges by the way but think the cannonball is more dangerous than the shoulder charge and needs too be treated as such!

Rangi's is disgusting and he should be banned for a long time for that, absolutely cowardly with intent to injure Ferres,
it's awful, the whole cannonball tackle thing is a disgrace and should be banned immediately and any player found guilty of it should be out as long as the player they injured is.
Child also ignored a shoulder charge by Hauraki, and put that on report even though yet again the TJ came onto the field to tell him what had happened!

or in Rangi's case, while the ball carrier is already wrapped up, with one player holding one leg off the ground, Rangi goes around the back of Ferres and deliberately attacks his only leg on the ground

| The incident on Ferres is one of three with contact to the legs of a tackled player that the MRP looked at from Chase alone over the Easter weekend.
Seems he's been learning from his cousin Issac Luke after all.

| Chase has had 36 reviews by the Disciplinery Committee in the last 6 years.
Taking out the games he's missed through suspension, injury and being dropped by his club for breaches of their own codes of conduct his record equates to approximately 1 visit for every 4 games played which is an horrendous record.
His offences are riddled with high shots to the head and face, undue pressure to various joints including the neck and shoulders and cannonball tackles to the standing leg of an opponent. The stand out incident is that of his elbow to the face of Tangi Ropati which caused terrible injuries requiring a number of steel plates and screws to the left side of Ropati's head and both joints of his jaw.
Will the RFL do nothing to stop this until someone is left invalided by him!

| So, between him and Hauraki they have copped 9 game bans between them and James Child deemed neither of them worthy of on field punishment ?? and we wonder why people are getting fed up of referee's in this sport.
Rangi's was sickening and 6,000 people in the stands saw what he did but not the one guy that mattered ??
7 games is nowhere near enough punishment for a blatant attempt to cause serious injury to a fellow player, horrible little grub who has a long history of trying to injure opponents.

What a pity he won't have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Hock in the cup.

| No player should be put in a dangerous position like that, shows total lack of respect from Rangi , and he deserves the ban.

I am surprised that despite 6000 people in the stands apparently seeing this incident clearly, there was no mention of it on either teams forum until it was announced that he had been charged. No mention in the match day threads etc. If it was so clear then I'm sure it would've been the main topic of post match discussion.
It was a deserved ban, but let's not go overboard.

There's serious injuries and there's serious injuries. No one wants to be spending a few weeks on the sidelines with a broken jaw. However it's far preferable to spending a year out of the game having a knee reconstruction. That example is pretty minor in the grand scheme of injuries.

| The shoulder barge was banned because it was clear (certainly in Australia, not so much here I think) that coaches were building in the "accidently late" shoulder charge into their defensive strategy to intimidate kickers and there was the suspicion that it was also used to "take players out".
