Daryl, here's a lesson even amateurs understand : when you lose 41-0, it's not the referee's fault, and any attempt to try and displace blame is pathetic.
Bottom line is Cas have been pants since the CC semi-final, and you're the coach, mate, so that's your responsibility. Not the referee.
41-0 and it's the ref's fault. Deary me.
I hope he gets a big fine for that, if only to remind coaches throughout the game that they should grow up and accept responsibility.

| He does need to learn to be a bit more gracious and diplomatic.
To blame the ref for that defeat is daft. Not to mention that Cas some dubious calls in their favour too.

| There were 3 awful decisions or missed incidents that led to saints going 3 tries up. Momentum swung massively in saints favour when a great game was being played out.

| James Child was terrible and basically reffed cas out the match in the 1st half but its still no excuse for conceding 40 odd points and scoring none.

| To be fair to Powell he's equally acknowledged his own teams shortcomings, and they did get some questionable calls, but I'd be far more disappointed in his players than the referee. If they react like that every time they don't get the rub of the green it doesn't bode well for the future. That said, if he alludes to some kind of vendetta that Child has against Cas it's no surprise to see his players fold like they did.
Shocking from Cas, and it's a travesty that both they and Huddersfield get home games next week after putting in performances like that.

| He is from Yorkshire, I wouldnt expect anything else
The 2 results show why the top 8 play off system is a joke, once a team at this stage goes 3 score down, the towel gets thrown in and energy conservation becomes the priority

Spot on. It was nothing to do with the ref, who actually had a decent game - it was the touchies that were the problem, but everything to do with Cas apparently not being bothered. Hey-ho, two play-off games, two games I've turned off at half time.

HUDDERSFIELD finished 3rd and CASTLEFORD finished 4th so both would have been involved under any form of play off system that we've ever employed in Rugby League, what's the top 8 got to do with it.

Think he means more the fact they've got a second chance with the current Top 8 system, so just conserve energy when a few scores down

Not sure how many games Child has been in charge of Castleford games this season, but get the feeling our players don't like him and he doesn't like us either...may go back to the time of his S.L debut when he got pulled off at half time by the ref commissioner when we played Celtic Crusaders.
Some of the crowd & the players (on both sides) were questioning his decisions, and when it was announced he wouldn't be returning for the 2nd half due to "injury" it got the biggest cheer of the day.

| We were awful and have been pretty much since the cup final, nobody disagrees with this. Having said that James child is the worst referee I have ever seen in he sport, if he is able to take charge of a top flight game then we may as well start recruiting blind folk.
Obviously the best coach in the country isn't as knowledgable as most on here but I'll agree with him

| Cas have a consistent and unusually low win percentage when James Child is reffing and that has gone back years (from memory there's only been 3 wins with him in charge - Lock Lane in the cup and Wakefield twice this year) every 70-30 never mind 50-50 goes to the other team.
That said, Cas could still be playing right now and still wouldn't have scored a try.

Could that not be because, on the whole, Cas have been pap for most of James Child's career

| I did not think he reffed too badly at all, generally consistent. Yes he allowed saints to hold down but he also allowed cas the same luxury.
Powell could have reffed the game himself and not affected the outcome.
according to the stats cas got more penalties ?

Child was truly awful. He gave Saints everything & killed Cas early in the game. I'm a fan of neither side & actually took Saints at 6/1 to win the GF.
I'm glad they are just 80 minutes away from being able to try & erase that run of bridesmaid appearances, but I completely agree with Powell on this.
He does also say Saints were too good for Cas & that his side need to be far better.

Up until Friday Saints were yet to win a game with Child this year after 4 attempts... So our win percentage under him was 0%
