Escare is the highest ranked full back and the only full back in the top 10 in SL in terms of tries scored (all those above him are wingers).
The next best full back in terms of tries scored is 19th ranked Jamie Shaul who has scored 8 tries and 3 try assists.
Zak Hardaker, with 6 tries and 9 assists is ranked 36th in Opta try scoring rankings.
However Hardaker is the top metre maker in SL with 2164 metres compared to Johnny Lomax (5 tries 9 assists) 1583 and Jamie Shaul's (8 tries, 3 assists) 1534, Matt Russell (3 tries 0 assists) 1409, Matt Bowen ( 5 tries 3 assists) 1260, and Escare's 1080.

Hardaker
Without really thinking about it.
The kid's got talent, as he grows up, gets stronger and gains experience he has the potential to be a 'good un'. At the moment not even close.

Escare is a good full back with the ball in hand, defensively can be liable to make some real big errors.
Having played around 250+ games over 13 years in the NRL and still in great form Matty Bowen is very obviously the best fb, I think others are better than Escare.

Not even close.
The problem with using stats, is they are not all equal. Just as an example, there's no stats which shows some of the outrageous try saving tackles hardaker has pulled off this year.
A player could be put into a gaping hole and pass to a supporting player to be under the sticks.
Another player could beat 2 men then get an unbelievable ball out the back door to the winger who's in at the corner.
But both would show up as the same try assist in the stats. They just aren't a complete reflection. Then can give partial guidance, but you have to judge a player by what you physically see them do on the field week in week out, and not just what the numbers tell you.

Escare is a quality little player who is good to watch. Never understood why Catalans brought in Webb. I know he needs to work on some areas but he is good to watch.

Morgan Escare's 2 tries against Bradford brings his tally up to 13 tries with 10 try assists, the second highest try tally of all players in Super League, just behind Tommy Makinson on 14, and equal with Ryan Hall. Escare had made 151 carries, and run 1235 metres for an average of 8.17 metres per carry. Escare has made 88 tackles and missed 27.
Behind him among full backs is 16th placed Jamie Shaul with 8 tries and 3 assists. Shaul has made 175 carries over 1534 metres for an average of 8.77 metres per carry. Shaul has made 63 tackles and missed 9.
Overall this suggests to me that of the two Escare is a more potent attacking full back while Shaul is better defensively.

Escare suffers from the disadvantage of small stature. If he could bulk up physically his defence would likely improve to the level of most of his rivals. |
