Are doing a feature on the 6 nations, isn't it nice the way main stream media like to link there product to the nations big sporting events.

Maybe they should be featuring Leeds v London for Baileys testimonial.

The 6 nations year on year is probably the biggest regular '1 off' sporting event crowd wise in the UK.

add to that the 6 nations is on the bbc as wellit makes sense.

I wonder if on RU forums theyre whinging that Sky are publicising the new SL season

I have been reliably informed that the BBC are doing a feature on Rugby League in the interests of balance.

They intend to headline and episode of Rogue traders with a feature on The Bradford Bulls.

my point being i predicted they wouldn't mention the RLWC before it started (which was on the bbc) and i was right, they cover ever other single sporting event and as well as minority sports and even do features on the local village worm charming festival its not just the one show but every single main stream tv programme.

rugby league fans blame RFL HQ for being unable to market the game and not get our big events into the peoples national consciousness .

Yet when every main stream media ignores us every one comes on here saying why they should?!

It isn't up to to the "mass media" to pay attention to our game. It is up to our game to do something that makes the "mass media" pay attention.

How you got that from my post I've no idea. Personally, I thought that the WC received a fair and reasonable amount of coverage.

The reality is that RL doesn't get media attention because it doesn't do enough to earn it, not because of some sort of "old school tie, London media" conspiracy. If RL put on more events that get people talking, that get people fighting for tickets and get people wanting more, the media attention will follow.

Like it or not, the Six Nations is a big deal - a much bigger deal than anything RL can currently offer.

Don't worry, there'll be another hatchet job from George Riley along soon I'm sure. With friends like him as they say.

Maybe the RFL should day one consider having 'events' and then the mainstream media might pick it up?

The RFL do themselves no favours of expectation of expansion beyond the M62 when they have a ridiculously boring and stereotype video announcer who narrates their YouTube presentations....

I don't see the incessant need to compare anything and everything to union. Simply because it has rugby in the name. RL can attract new supporters/sponsors from other places then twickenham, we really should just concentrate on ourselves (which we are starting to do)

What, every, four or is it five, no, six years?? RLIF can't even keep to a REGULAR format unlike the IRB.

Yet it's watched by millions of viewers.

So is Big Brother!!

So is Coronation Street and Eastenders.

Doesn't stop those programmes from being s***e either.

Yes but opinions vary, what is crap to you is great to someone else, and the fact of the matter is the 6 nations being on the one show is a huge advertisement for the game of Rugby Union and will put the game even more ahead of Rugby League, and people who are moaning why didn't they show the RL world cup one the show you might want to have a word with the RFL media manager who's job it is to contact the BBC, ITV, SKY to broadcast RL based shows?

Thing is there happy to sit back and carry on doing NOTHING!

And what if the BBC didn't want to do a RL feature on the One Show? Would that still be the fault of the RFL Media Manager?



A lot of people keep saying the same thing, but I'm assuming these people don't have the necessary media and marketing qualifications. If they do, why don't they contact the RFL and put themselves forward if they think they can do a much better job.
