| oOOOH...an attendance thread! I wonder how this one will end up
51,000 down from 2011 and the lowest opening round attendance since 2004. Regardless of the weather, which was crap, a couple of the attendances at the weekend were terrible.
27,803 for roosters v Souths in 2011....18,278 12 months later? Penrith and Canberra both shameful (regardless of the weather).......

I'm sure RL fans all over Australia are necking themselves Gutters...
www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/n ... 6292602244
Quote THE Australian Rugby League Commission's bargaining position with pay-television has been strengthened after [ua record-breaking opening weekend[/u reinforced the game's value to Foxtel.
With the code in the throes of nutting out a new deal with incumbent broadcasters Foxtel and Network Nine, The Australian obtained figures showing audiences are on the rise.
Foxtel's rugby league flagship, Super Saturday, had an average audience of 303,000 viewers, the [uhighest ratings for an opening round in history[/u.
Furthermore, the Monday night game between Sydney Roosters and South Sydney was the highest-rating show on pay-TV that day, with an average audience of 322,000.
[uOverall audience was up 9 per cent on the opening round last season[/u. The most dramatic increase came in the 5.30pm slot, with 337,000 viewers tuning into the Canberra-Melbourne game. That represented an increase of 29 per cent on the corresponding game last year.
The rating figures shape as a significant fillip for the ARLC as it attempts to break the $1 billion mark with its broadcasting deal. They come only a matter of days after Friday night football helped Nine topple ratings giant My Kitchen Rules in Sydney.
"The week's ratings results were another reminder of the compelling nature of our competition," ARLC chief executive David Gallop said.
"Close games mean all fans know their team is a realistic hope of winning. The standard of play was a credit to our players and coaches - it's shaping as a great season and our value to the television industry was rammed home again this week."
Formal talks have commenced with both Nine and Foxtel, with the parties involved in the three-month exclusive period of negotiations that began on February 1.
While Nine and Foxtel are expected to come back with solid offers, the ARLC has foreshadowed taking the rights to the marketplace. Network Ten has an interest in obtaining rights to NRL games, while Network Seven has targeted State of Origin.'"

| So 51,000 less people than Rd 1 last season went to a game.
Overall 9% more people watched it on telly than Rd 1 last season.
TBF Lockyer, this is a thread about attendances, not viewing figures.

I am sure they aren't....but CEO's of clubs that heamorage cash for fun will be missing the $250,000 + that went missing in gate receipts as well as the other residual sales revenue from beer and food.......
As you've brought up the TV thing......I will say that the thing about selling your soul to a TV company is that regardless of the IC and its role, eventually, the piper wants paid.........Thursday Night footie is a perfect example......Players who say have a tough game on a Sunday are only given 3 days to recover before backing up.......all so the TV company can get its pound of flesh...

| If it brings them an increased TV grant of 2mill+ I am sure they won't care too much, especially as a lot of them have fixed payment from stadium deals rather than taking of gate receipts. Memberships are also up on last year so that is fixed income coming in regardless of fair weather fans turning out.
I do agree though that for a massive sport like RL in Australia getting sub 12k crowds is a joke. It's a shame the heartland of the game is in a city where people are not that bothered about watching their team live.

| 2 Sydneyteams drawing sub 13k on a lovely sunny Sunday afternoon, v poor. What's going on at the Titans, on the back of a win and first game of the season woudl have expected a lot more.
Decent crowd in Melb hopefully they can build on that as season progresses.
Good crowd in Gosford, nice smaller stadium up there, wonder how many travelled for the game and how many were actually CC residents?

| Yeah the first game was heading for a sellout it was reported 2 days before the game, pity 80% of the state was under water you pathetic trolling fruit loop.
As for Monday, well, it was a monday night game kicking off at 7 against an out of country team, 12k was pretty good if you ask me, =#BF0000let's not go down that road - Sheldon, so suck on the .
Dunno why you bother trying to talk RL at all simply because you are envious of it and you do nothing but run it down, you're a ing clown.

But unfair considering the torrential rain and that many Cowboys fans dont live in Townsville and travel a good couple of hours to watch a game from places like Cairns, Innesfail, Mount Isa etc. Parra are a joke though both on and off the field

To drive would take you:
Cairns to Townsville = 4 - 4.5 hours
Innisfail to Townsville = 3-3.5 hours
Mount Isa to Townsville = over 10 hours.
When it rains up there, you know about it, as in tropical, monsoony type.

I talk RL at more places than you have ever attempted to troll at gutternuffnuff. And as for trying to have a crack at my team, well done. But at least I have a team to follow unlike you mr poster above my computer table and following a team means you follow through the good and the bad. How's that plastic fan?

| If this carries on I'll ban you both.
The amount of posters on Rlfans who clearly want to discuss NRL but don't on this board is ridiculous, I have a feeling it's because of the petty arguments which happen on here on a regular basis.
Over the last couple of years we've had a big thread on the board which has caused embarrassment to admin, I won't let it happen again.
Compared to other forums we have rules on here which the mods have been pretty lenient with, no more.
Your only warnings.
