In all honesty, I thought it was a bit naff as well. I think I might have seen a short version of it though. If you're not fully paying attention, you wouldn't even know it was a rugby advert.

I think it's pretty good.

But the main point is that SKY have decided to make a deidcated advert to SL about two week inadvance of the season.

And yet they will be advertising the 2012/13 union season and heineken cup from the day they finish the 2011/12 one!

No they won't.

I actually quite like the advert. It's better than a few cobbled together clips of games from last year as usual. This one actually grabs your attention.

Let's look at those RL stereotype boxes :

Fat (stuffs face while sitting on couch) : tick
Unattractive (hairy back - sorry, people with hairy backs...) : tick
Unglamourous (box of bricks, cheap car, Anywhereville) : tick

If I watch that as an RL fan, I might raise a wry smile.

If I watch that as a sports fan with no attachment to RL, it puts me off because it seems as exciting as a housebrick, and I don't want to identify with the hairy fat guy, [ieven if I am a hairy fat guy[/i.

To be fair, it's better than their current ads for Premier League football featuring that couple who clearly aren't meant for each other.

Its a shocking advert and I would be ashamed to hand something as bad as that if I was doing media at Uni!! They would have been much better off putting together a montage of last seasons SL and England Internationals!

Ryan Halls 1st try v Australia
Rob Burrow try v Saints in GF
A few Sam Tomkins clips etc etc
A clip of Leeds getting thrashed at Home to Hudds then a clip of Sinny lifting the trophy to show the unpredictability of SL.
A load of big hits

I like the slogan but the advert isnt the best.

Like someone said tough, having Sky advertise weeks before the season actually starts is quite an accomplishment especially without using any generic footage/catchphrases. People want a Tomkins based one or and England RL based one etc but that wont attract people, they will glance and see oh two men tackling each other great whereas with this one at least it tries to show a little bit of humour.

Some people on here could have an argument with themselves in a locked room about things in RL.

I'd only seen the waxing part. Wow, the rest of it just screams "fat ugly northerner".

I'd also like to mention that it doesn't actually show ANY rugby. If people don't know what SL is, how will they know it's a rugby advert?!

It's not though. At least you know that they're football adverts. They actually show football clips!
