| Source?
Can anyone see him pulling up any trees considering he didn't do much for the treble winners in his time up here? Not even nearly considered for an international call up.

| Interesting to note that I was told a Burgess was coming over more than 6 weeks ago now. But was thrown off the scent by a Souths official suggesting it was the twin and they wouldn't be coming to Souths.
Sucked in. As they say over here.
I wonder what George would think about his brother coming over and in effect taking a spot form him in the NRL line up? He's been in Reserve Grade all season, though is out with injury.

| I can't see Luke Burgess getting a gig in the first team very often. I think they've signed him after watching his brother player. But the rest of the Burgess' don't seem half as talented. They don't even look like Sam.

Already had the call I heard.
Good look to the lad! But can't help but think the Burgess' (bar Sam) my hinder each others progress if they all end up at Souths. Wonder what next for Tom?

| Can't see him doing much in the NRL when you consider the fact that he was struggling to get in a Leeds team who lets face it have been poor this season.

| Tom apparently wants to make a name for himself over here rather than being lumped in with his brothers as has been the case for years now.
Tom & George have potential but aren't as skilful as their brother who is something special. I can see the twins turning out more like Luke than Sam, not bad players but not top quality.

He was actually doing pretty well this season until being dropped by Barry for no apparent reason

Tom has tremendous potential for an 18 year old. Different style of player to Sam but he could be just as good if looked after properly.
Haven't seen George play. Luke is a first grade player who will benefit hugely from a move to the NRL. It will bring that extra bit out of him. Was Ellis considered the best when he went, or Mark Flanagan? It's the environment that makes all the difference.

Luke has been in great form this season, one of Leeds' best props in fact.
Hetherington offered him a new deal and gave him a 3 day deadline to sign it. Luke asked for more time, so Hetherington pulled the deal off the table and he hasn't played for Leeds since (Ian Kirke is one lucky sod).

| If Ben Cross managed 95 NRL appearances and 2 State of Origin games then I think Luke Burgess (or any other decent English prop for that matter) should be OK

Was going to say that. We seem to have this impression that the NRL has 17 benji Marshall's in each squad. There are some very average and poor players in the NRL too. Mark flanagan joined Wests, usually a sub and there were all these calls for him to get an England jersey!! He didn't really do much apart from tackle and keep hold of the ball. He was solid and people wanted him in an international jersey!! Sometimes we belittle our competition and players too much.

If he could manage to do that for England it would be an improvement on some of the dross peddled out by the national side in recent years

As the majority of Leeds fans will tell you, he has been far from poor and looked to be one of the best props this season and up there with Kylie and Peacock (excepting that Peacock is still far from his previous best). He hasn't struggled to get in to the Leeds teams because of his form, he hasn't being picked to play it would appear... which is different!

Spot on and as most Leeds fans will tell you, Burgess has made steady progress in the side and was really starting to look the part early season. I don't think he has as much 'natural' talent as Sam but he is still a good player and if he carries on improving he will go well in the NRL and may end up in an England jersey in a couple of seasons.

Average and poor relative to NRL standards, but not to SL. Look at how many NRL nobodies are playing in SL. That's what belittles the SL and players brought through here. Not what someone might 'think'.

yeah he was selected in the world 13 a few times before he went to the NRL...meaning he was considered 1 of the top 2 2nd rowers in the world....
he also had a "flick pass" BEFORE he went to australia
