We do have a lack of 'celebs' in our sport.

More players on QOS and random chat shows would be great for the publicity of the game.

Problem is, most of the players sound like numpties. Would you like to have Jamie Jones Buchanan, Jamie Peacok or Gaz Hock representing your sport on a quiz show?

Think most of the players need a lot of media coaching as I have yet to see a player look comfortable infront of the camera.

But in truth, it wouldn't hurt to put players through a bit of media training. I know that putting a camera in front of most people would make them nervous but how many players have genuinely looked comfortable in front of the media? Robbie Paul, Barrie McDermott and John Wilkin come to mind but beyond that the list is pretty short.

You are right there is only a couple of players who actually look ok talking to the media.

It's not the lack media training training that's the problem. As that produces a homogenised non-personalised view of the world, with standardised answers memorised from script, and a strict convention of how to act. Rather, it's the lack of education, in general, that these people possess, and the non-confidence to act as they would do normally. As Wittgenstein once said, "the limits of my language, are the limits of my world".

(and no, a degree in Sports Science doesn't count towards being educated)

I disagree. You can predict what most footballers are going to say to each question 2 minutes in advance. Although, that's more of a dig at sports media in general - asking the same old questions, in the same old manner.

It something you notice with the Aussie players - most of them seem very relaxed with the media.

Pretty much all of them are. Even the younger players.

Get media training, don't try and sound like something you're not, there's nothing wrong with accents, just clarity in what you're saying in front of the cameras.
