A good trainer is invaluable to players.

Surely the players are capable of putting on attacking moves without the trainer direct the play?

If a trainer only did that then I'd agree, ask Rooster Booster on the full list of their roles and how they prioritise them.

If it wasn't a important role some of the greatest players ever to play the game wouldn't agree to do it.

Out of interest do people on here know what a blue, orange or yellow jersey's allowed to do and when they can do it?

Other then get in the way of the opposition and fill any gaps in defence? Least, thats what a Wigoon fan told me following the StG-Illa game

Dont we have slightly different rules over here (SL) and I kno we had a couple of high profile incidents with trainers interupting play.

So, invaluable to the players or spectator irritant?
Spill it! Without giving any secrets away obviously.

In Oz, a very brief description.

BLUE - allowed on to run messages, when team is in possession of ball. When it turns over, you're meant to get off the pitch.

ORANGE - main medical man, allowed on any time. Obviously can run a message if the blue's already out there and the coach wants to get another one out. Or simply give a message whilst out treating an injury.

YELLOW - allowed on only in a break in play. Or when there's more than one injury and the Orange is out treating the first.



The NRL does fine clubs for other minor infringements. Like handing in the team sheet, even 1 minute late can cost. Or, if a player doesn't place the interchange card in the officials hand and drops it. Technically he's not allowed on and the club will get a fine.

And we would ask Rooster Booster this why precisely?

Dunno, sometimes it seems as if the natural flow of play is being interupted.

LOG IN persona 1. LOG OUT. LOG IN persona 2, make quip to or about persona 1 LOG OUT. LOG IN person 3, make quip, comment, defence or attack persona 1 or 2 to taste, then pretend Dally must be one of the personas so you can knock him. LOG OUT. Cook for 5 mins on gas mark 5 and let cook. Repeat process for threads of choice, or start one if bored. Must be very exhausting all this cooking.



It's very clever, though a little self indulgent.

While that is a important part of their role it's not the only one.

Cool, the role of the physio is self explanatory. The Water carriers are only allowed on at breaks or as instructed by the Match Officials, which brings us to the Trainers.

The Trainers(usually an assistant coach) are allowed on only when their team are in possession. You say they do more than pass msgs while RB defines their role as, 'allowed to pass msgs'.
My question is are they really needed at all?

Edit: This isnt a dig at any one in particular, im interested in how the role has evolved from the Ass.Coach bollocking the team behind the posts into what seems to be an almost full time role on the pitch.

A 'Trainer' does very little apart from pass messages.

I don't play NRL although I am good enough for S15, but if they wasn't needed would a pro club waste cash on something that wasn't needed?

I think their invaluable to players, the clubs pay them to do a job, some of the best players in the world take on the job, the best coaches in the world use them.

All clubs at all grades use them. What Im asking is should they be allowed to enter the field of play whilst the game is live?
