A few surprise names in there, McIlorum and Ferres in particular.
From Hull, disappointing not to see Danny Houghton in one of the squads, and I thought Will Sharp would be in with a shout of getting into the ETS.

| Few surprises, but very much like the idea of the elite squad and Knights squad. A few players in the Knights squad may have expected to get into the elite squad (Atkins, Moore, Lunt) therefore it will only spur them on.
Carvell and Griffin both dropped? Ferres straight into the elite squad? McIllorum I do agree with, we're a few hookers down these days and from what I hear at Wigan no one trains harder than he does, and thats from one of the players.
Some good players in that elite squad, with, I would presume, Ellis and Burgess to come into the game squads. Also some good players in the Knights team banging on the door.

| Thought Brough played for Scotland last year??? Have no idea as to the rules as the RLIF make them up as they go along.
Anyway good to see Gale in the Knights squad.

| The Knights squad has one prop in it. In fact the whole lot looks under-represented in the front row (8 props out of 57 by my count). What did Andy Lynch do to Steve McNamara?

Do you think McIllorum is the second best English hooker? Would have had Lunt and Moore ahead of him, and probably Houghton too.
Admittedly I don't see much of Ferres, but I can't say that he's ever stood out to me as being International quality on the few times I have seen him play.

| No Andy Lynch (or Bulls players at all) in the ETS? No Danny Houghton in the Knights? No Eastmond (it's not been confirmed, so why push him out the door)?
Baffling. The sad thing is, when Hull end up sacking Agar, this is the clown we will probably bring instead.

It'll be good thing for International Rugby though. Thanks in advance, Hull.

I wouldn't have thought the idea was to pick a team, but to develop the players in the squad into better players. 8 props out of a squad of 57 isn't bad in my opinion, we have players like Harriosn, Peacock, Burgess that can all play anywhere in the pack.

| Some strange decisions there i think, Prescott in the Elite squad? Can think of alot of props that should be in there ahead of him such as Lynch Carvell and Coley. Also think Atkins and Lunt should be in the Elite squad.

Does anyone really think the Scottish are going to be anything more than a place for poor Aussies and Championship or Academy players in the short or medium term? Danny Brough playing for Scotland isn't going to make up for the complete lack of rugby league being played in the country.
Far better to concentrate on Wales, France or even Ireland before Scotland.
Also I'm fairly sure Brough said he wanted to play for England now.

| Lynch and Coley should be in there above Prescott.
I expected Goulding to be in the elite after his good showing in the 4 nations, he was much better than Tom Briscoe.
Expected Lunt to be in the Elite, and Danny Houghton to be in the Knights.
Pleased that BJB is in the elite, I think he's a great talent.
Not so sure about Welham going straight into the elite.

He should have been selected for England, though, last season. Brough deserves his place and I wholly support it.
Not too fussed about the squads - players can be selected from outside it. It does give a good indication of which players have caught McNamara's eye though.

Yeah ok. I must have missed that thriving Scottish domestic competition that consistently supplies Super League or even the Championship with Scottish players? Or the flourishing national team as evidenced by their excellent recent results? Or the Scottish team in Super League, Championship or Championship 1? Or even a pro Scottish team in any division whatsoever? Is there even a semi-pro team?
The Scottish development officers I speak to don't seem to think so.
You talk of me being absurd and then compare Scotland to England or Australia!
Since you appear to disagree, do you think that Danny Brough playing for Scotland, despite being born, raised & lived in England his entire life, is going to advance Scottish RL development significantly?
Given rugby league's limited resources do you think that RL should be concentrating on Scotland or on places with a far higher chance of successfully developing a competitive RL playing nation?

| What an utter mess, Scotland RL posted this interview on their website with Dale Ferguson...
All three Scottish players were involved during the Alitalia European Cup, with Ferguson winning the man-of-the-match award against Ireland while Brough was one of Scotland's most consistent performers.
"It's always great to play alongside Danny," said Ferguson. "He's an electric player on the pitch and you know he's always going to give 100 percent in every game.
"He's the kind of player that everyone wants to play with because you know he can change a game instantly.
"He was magnificent for Huddersfield in their first game of the season and he's been outstanding for Scotland every time he's played, so I'm really looking forward to having the opportunity to play with him on a more frequent basis and that will also hopefully help at International level.
"I know it's not going to be easy here at Huddersfield but I'm going to push my hardest and work as hard as I can to try and get into the side and hopefully that will also lead to more Scotland caps in the future."

Led to believe Andy Coley was asked to be involved and declined the invitation. Also agree about Houghton, very good player and would have liked him to be involved in the Knights.

The fact that you are scoffing at a developing nation is so indicative of the attitude that has left us in such a weak international position. Nobody was trying to compare Scotland to Australia in terms of playing strengh, but they are not something to 'concentrate' on or not, this has nothing to do with money or resources. The fact is that several players who have committed to Scotland and played just a couple of months ago, have now been named in an England squad. I think there are some players who featured for Ireland in those squads too. Their actual background, as well as whether or not they will 'develop Scottish RL', is irrelevant. Apart from the fact that they now don't qualify for England for an unspecified period of time, these players have committed to Scotland and should play for Scotland. This is an international side representing a nation, it's not some sort of development tool, it's not something to be toyed with and dismissed and belittled in the way that you are doing. Your attitude has really irked me because it's so typical of RL in the past, and it's something that needs to change if we are ever going to make any progress as a sport.
