What most of the football pundits fail to realise the majority of the pitch damage appears to be central and around the goal mouths. RL by its very nature is a sport played across the entirety of the pitch and doesn’t concentrate on particular areas such as football.

I really hope the football side of it are not angling to oust the rugby team. The pitch is crap because of them. It’s time McGuire, or whoever the visitors are to the DW, complained about the state of the pitch and the fact football being played over the winter caused it when they serve up an unsatisfactory performance/result. It would be completely tongue in cheek, but it would be interesting to see if any of the football pundits picked up on it.

The article half way down about rugby league trying to keep to its values is actually a decent piece.

The pitch arguement is one we have at the KC every single year, and every single year the groundsman state that football causes more damage to the pitch than rugby. The biggest factor of all of course is the reduced sunlight and cold temperatures. But if they can blame rugby then they will.

Read the Telegraph every day for over 30 years....I admit, I didn't buy it for its RL coverage or even its politics but the crosswords......but they do occassionally come up trumps. I suggest that the Daily Mail are the worst paper for coverage.
The Telegraph were the ones that got hold of bloodgate like a rabid dog and wouldn't let go....does that make them Union Haters? Nope...just a national paper that understands the demographic of its readers.

Have the misfortune of reading the Telegraph and Daily Fail often at the Gym. It's a profoundly depressing experience for a RL Fan. Although though I do find for sheer anti RL coverage the Guardian takes the biscuit, that doyern of the "oh so right on New Labour chattering classes" wins hands down for sheer hatred of RL. Buy your local/regional paper RL Express and Rugby League world, what more do you need!
My local paper ( York Press ) and my local Regional paper both give superb RL Coverage. Often read the MEN at the in laws which also gives good RL coverage.

I wholeheartadly agree with what you say about The Guardian - it`s disdain for RL is scarcely disguised ...

Unfortunately the best paper for RL is the Express and the rest of it is unreadable .

The telegraph isn't even fit for chip paper.

Are this weeks super league games really major sporting events though?

It is funny that the Stoop has all-year round rugby and has a billiard table quality surface. Football causes far more damage IMO.

Apart from the Guiness Premiership game, yes in comparison to Super League looking at it from a nationwide perspective.

That doesn't answer the question you posed though.... by what stretch of the imagination is Wigan v Spurs a major sporting event. Two clubs from different ends of the country granted, but it's never in a million years a major sporting event any more than Wigan v 'Quins is.
At best, it's the equivelent of Wigan v Quins, but not even close to being a major event such as a cup final or an international game would be.

fair point. my parents read it, and every week i struggle to find a mention of the weekends games. not a single word printed today for the weekends games

The Guardian really does Loathe RL, It's 100% Union and Football. Best just buy a good local or regional paper and RL Express. Although I don't particularly like them the Daily Express and Daily Sport RL coverage isn't too bad!

Telegraph must hate RL even more now since there is not even a link to the RL page under the Sport's section on their website.

Why do people buy OPINION SHEETS?

We have TV, radio, t'interwebby etc and still people buy these things.

Can't people work things out for themselves or are they really influenced by biased opinion writers who follow a set agenda prescribed by their owners.

I haven't bought an opinion sheet in years and as for "news" they are so far behind it's a joke.

Morning Star used to be the best for rugby league. Full round up every Monday morning.
Don't buy papers nowadays, easy and sensible option for the rugby league fan.
League Express every so often and Sporting Life.com every few days.

Buy a regional or local paper instead I can't ever understand any RL fan EVER buying the Guardian, Daily Fail or Telegraph. They loathe RL, The Yorkshire Post MEN, and most regional papers give decent RL coverage. Comment very welcome from Crusaders fans on this welcome? I used to read my brother in laws Chronicle when I was up in Newcastle and it gave Thunder very good coverage.

The former RL journalist for the Telegraph, John Whalley was exceptional. Unfortunately, he left the paper a good ten years ago.

I heard Connor McNamara commentating on a Latics match on Five Live, complaining about the state of the DW pitch and saying they played rugby on it. Funny thing was, it was before Wigan played Crusaders in the first fixture.

I'm glad Rugby League only thrives in Working Class Northern areas because otherwise instead of Watching England V NZ at Huddersfield in the company of likeminded diehard fans you'd be surrounded by thousands of pompous turds like Torygraph reporters and readers. The only time Tarquin doesn't wear a suit is when he's at the rugger.. what what what. Experienced it only the once when Wigan played Barth at Twickers and hated it. There was a lad next to me about 19 who actually snorted, turning to his friend and saying "wow this is priceless Bartholomew, we're totally staffing them in the racks" No word of a lie. Me and my dad were sat on the front row and my dad actually fell asleep on the wall in front of our seats. I don't want Rugby League to change or for different types of people to start watching OUR game it would ruin it for me. (The fans that were into all that Bullmania rubbish that have all disappeared were equally as annoying)
